College Prowler Take
Although UM students might be lazy when it comes to academics, politics, or national events, one thing they take seriously is football. One thing that UM students treat religiously is football. God help you if you come in between a 'Cane and the TV if the game is on. It helps, of course, that UM has one of the most dominant college football programs in the country and that the team shows no sign of dropping out of the nation’s top tier. A true sign of a college student’s devotion is how early they’re willing to wake up for a game. For 12 p.m. games on Saturdays, students line up outside the gates of Dolphin Stadium as early as 8 a.m. to ensure good seats. By the mid-morning, the lines wind out into the parking lot. This is especially true for the big games against rivals like the University of Florida or Florida State University. Tickets to every UM sport are free to students, but not many people bother with anything but football, even though one of our former athletes took part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Intramurals also play a big part in campus life. There’s a yearly competition between the residential colleges called Sportsfest, where teams from the dorms compete in dozens of games over a weekend. There are also intramurals during the fall and the spring, where the activity is dominated by fraternities, but can also include various other organizations. The IM games get pretty heated, especially in popular sports like flag football and basketball. Sportsfest is a fun way to compete against other dorms and other floors from within your building, and it also helps to build bonds between floormates. But the most important thing will always be the football team, proven by the funeral-like silence the day after any rare loss.

Varsity sports are great, and...
Varsity sports are great, and Miami has a national presence in football, baseball and even basketball, among other sports. Aside from varsity athletics, there are many club sports that give a solid team without the huge commitment. The men's and women's lacrosse teams, ultimate Frisbee, men's and women's soccer, field hockey, and other club teams also play against other college teams and are always looking for new players.

It seems like varsity football is the only thing that matters here. Basketball and baseball are just fillers until the football season, even though we have an excellent baseball team. IM football and basketball are very big. Tennis and golf are also popular. |

Everyone goes to the football...
Everyone goes to the football games, obviously. The Bank United Center is nice, so some people go to basketball games, too. The Center was also the site of the first 2004 Presidential Debate. |

Gyms and Facilities
- Bank United Center - This is the University’s $48 million venue for collegiate basketball games, commencement ceremonies, and concerts.
- Wellness Center - This huge gym is one of the campus’s best attributes. The machines and facilities are state-of-the-art, and the indoor swimming pool and hot tub are a hit with students. Beyond that, there are plenty of racquetball and squash courts, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, and a juice bar. The Wellness Center stays open until midnight on weeknights, 11 p.m. on Friday, and 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Getting Tickets
Attending UM is a sports-lover’s dream. Students get free access to any UM sporting event with their ID card. Tickets to football bowl games are also available for students to purchase, and the school puts together packages to allow students to attend away games during football season. The basketball arena and baseball stadium on campus are fun places to see a game for free.
Most Popular Sports
Football dominates every weekend during the season, with students spending Saturday afternoons supporting the team. The baseball team is also one of the country’s best, but it doesn’t get nearly the amount of attention that football does.
Most Overlooked Teams
The women’s basketball team is among the top in its division, and even in the country, but few pay attention to it. The baseball team gets great recognition nationally, but you’re more likely to see Sportscenter anchors talking about it than you are to hear it in a conversation among students.
Best Place to Take a Walk
The path around the lake, or the road that circles the school are very scenic places to take walks.
