Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Movies like Terminator and The Matrix predict that computers will someday take over earth and enslave the human race. What better reason could there be for keeping one in your dorm room? Having a computer in college is more of a social luxury than an academic necessity. Computer labs can be found in the lobby of every UM residence hall, as well as the library, and they’re hardly ever full. It’s much more convenient, however, to lay in bed like a lazy walrus with a laptop and finish your homework that way. Those who can afford it should bring a computer to college. A laptop with a long cord is a plus, because then, if you have a fridge close by and a strong bladder, there will be no reason to ever get out of bed on the weekends.

Like most colleges, UM has a fast and fairly reliable network that gives you easy access to the Internet, and the campus-wide wireless network is a huge asset if you have a laptop. The system does go down occasionally, but it almost always comes back within a few minutes. For students looking to cut back on spending, rest assured that you can complete your assignments in the computer labs. They stay open late—some past midnight—and always have a staff member there to help with technical problems. But the majority of students who use the labs are only there to fulfill the requirements of archaic professors who still want assignments saved on floppy disks, a feature left off many modern computers.

Decent

Each student it given $100 printing dollars for the semester, which is essentially more than you could ever need. The computer labs are located conveniently in the residential halls, libraries and often times individual colleges have a computer lab in them. The entire campus is wifi accessible making it easy to bring a laptop to class.
