Sports Are Incredible – We have plenty of sports options here. Varsity sports are huge, especially football. The campus makes a lot of money from those teams, so they treat them with a lot of importance. They are really fun games to attend, and everyone has fantastic team spirit. Go blue! It's a big enough campus that there are athletic opportunities if you wish to find them.

Guys & Girls:
Guys Are Hot, Girls Are Hot – Everyone here is so social. There are PLENTY of beautiful guys and girls (so many athletes!) and most of us actually have a brain (another added bonus!). Most people are fairly liberal/open minded. There are people from every kind of background with every type of interest. Anything you want, you can find here!

Drinking Is Much More Popular – UMich is a big ten school, and like most football schools, it's a drinking school. There are some incredible parties on this campus of all sizes with all types of people. It's a fantastic scene - the perfect balance of work and play. Michigan is a competitive school, but we like to have fun. Work hard, play hard! Drug scene isn't very visible, but you can't get whatever you want if you ask around.

I got into plenty of better "names" than Michigan (i.e., Ivies, Baby Ivies), but the academics at Michigan are what drew me to the campus. I'm in the Honors program, and since this is such a big campus, I have access to every class that I could possibly think of. Plus, we have opportunities in Spring and Summer (not just Summer) to take additional classes since our summers are so long. The professors are the leading in their field since this is a research opportunity, and no matter how experienced they are, they always want to meet with undergraduate students. Small discussion classes are great for discussion. At first (coming from a very small school) I was intimated but the idea of huge lectures, but the reality is, no matter how many kids are in the lecture, it is still the same lecture. There are opportunities to answer questions, but lectures are meant for you to mostly pay attention and take notes; discussion sections are great to begin understanding the material on a deeper level. I am SO happy and impressed with the academics here, and coming from a high school prep school, I came with very high expectations.

Health & Safety:
Michigan Campus Safety – I've never felt unsafe on the Umich Campus. There are plenty of options for free safe rides home on campus, and I have taken a taxi several times if I think it's too late to walk home. They provide campus crime alerts via email if anything happens and give you plenty of resources to avoid being in any compromising situations. If you're living in an on campus dorm, just know that campus security does walk around and pays attention to shouting drinking games in rooms (so if for some reason you're drinking in your room, just pre-game and go somewhere else or keep your noise under control).

Very Relaxed – The campus police are not very strict and are not trying to get you in trouble.. the only time they will cause an issue is if you are sloppy, falling over in front of them. But for the most part they aren't looking to get people who are drinking in trouble.. just the people who have crossed the line and are acting obnoxious. The frat parties never get busted because of the IFC police which is a plus.

Drugs Are Present, Not Overwhelming – People drink on campus, people smoke cigarettes, people smoke weed. If you don't want to be involved in that stuff, people are really accepting of it, and the drug scene doesn't over power campus. If you do want to be involved then it's not too difficult to find your way.

Frats, Clubs, House Parties, Oh My! There's always something going on during the night at Michigan. Whether you want to hit up Necto, or go to your friends house and throw a party, you can't ever miss a good time. There's also a lot of bars to go to, but you have to be 21 or have a good fake to get into. The clubs are all 18 and up and are really fun and have great DJs. The frat parties are typical, but free booze and drunk friends are always a great time.

Central or North? Most freshmen get put on North campus, which sucks, because they have to take a bus down to central campus everyday, but the good part about it is North campus is so beautiful and off the beaten path of the busy central campus. Also, since most freshmen are on north, you get to meet a bunch of them and form your own family. Signing up for housing sucks, because upperclassmen get priority most of the time, so it's really a toss up where you're going to end up, but after freshmen year, you can sign up to live on the same hall as your friends.

People always talk about Michigan weather. I'm from Michigan so I have no problems really, but when it gets cold it gets too cold and when it's hot it's too hot.

What's That Smell? Every other day or so when I come back to my dorm the entire hall smells pretty weird. I'm not familiar with the smell myself, but based on the comments of others it seems like there might be some drug usage going on. Also, I've seen cops nailing people for drinking twice in my hall.

Buildings are kinda old, but there are many options. The new ones are expensive.

I Got Unlucky – I got the worst housing on campus but feel that the overall environment here is good.

Go Team! Sports here at Michigan are huge and there is lots of spirit, fan support as well as student involvement.

Plenty of computers available all around campus, all in very good condition.

Very Good – The people here are very welcoming and more often than not very polite.

Guys & Girls:
Alot of Umich school pride, therefore you will often see yellow and/or blue shirts, caps, pants, sweaters, etc.

South Quad Dining Hall – Not the best food. Becomes dull after a couple of weeks, but it's manageable and convenient.

No Major – I have not yet declared a specific major or minor. I went in thinking about Biomedical Engineering however it is much too hard to attain right now. I'm taking other classes to see what I might be interested in going into.

Public Ivy – This is a state school, where I pay in state tuition, and it competes with the best schools in the world. A fantastic institution.

U of M – This is Michigan for God sakes. Get to a hockey game - this is one of the great college athletic departments. It's not just a football school.

Very Safe – Aside from some petty crime, maybe the occasional b & e, I feel very safe walking around Ann Arbor. As a town, its pretty harmless.

Who Doesn't Know About Sports Here! It's the University of Michigan: football, basketball, hockey, crew, tennis, gymnastics, even quidditch. We have it all. Our training facilities are top-notch and easy to access.

I am majoring in neuroscience, but since I am only a freshman I haven'e really gotten into my core classes yet. Too soon to tell.

Dorm Living – My dormatory is on North Campus, so it is a bike ride or a bus ride to get to most of my classes (about 2 miles). It actually is OK. I like getting away from the hustle and bustle after classes. The dorm has alot going on has really good food. Many freshman get placed on North Campus (not by choice), and are upset about it. But like I said - I like it.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
