Health & Safety:
Campus Safety – We get notifications when something is going on at the school to keep us alert, the one problem is that they may not be at the correct time. The community also works together to help students feel safe when around campus. The people around campus are very nice and we have the blue light system. We also have a late night ride that will take you anywhere on campus really late at night.

There are a ton of computers all over central and north campus available to you at any time. They are nice computers located in good working environments. You should be able to find a computer whenever you need it.

It Depends on Whether or Not You Are an Engineer – I'm an engineering student, and we take the honor code extremely seriously. It is enforced at all times, and it is very near and dear to the hearts of the administration.

I Wouldn't Know Because I Refuse to Participate – I wouldn't know because I refuse to participate in such activities.

It Depends on Where You Are, and How Far You Want to Go – When it comes to the dining halls, it depends on where you go, and when you go. Whenever the food is good, you need to get there early, because food tends to run out quickly. But of course, there are times where no matter where you go the food is simply awful. Never get the unlimited meal plan, it is not worth your money, and most of the time, you will have to resort to spending money on the weekends when the dining halls are closed.

The fall and spring are beautiful - warm during the day, but cold at night and in the morning. I wasn't prepared for how long it is cold and how cold it gets, and also for having to walk to class in freezing temps, gusty winds, and blinding snow. Classes are NEVER canceled.

It's difficult to park near campus, to say the least. It is much easier to walk than to have a car and it takes much less time. There is really no need for a car on campus.

Meh, Overrated – Greek life is less than 1/5 of the school population, which is surprising because it feels like they're everywhere. A noticeable number of people quit after their freshman or sophomore years because it costs A LOT of money and is very cliquey. Not everyone wants that. Most of campus has the impression that Greek kids are just a bunch of rich, self-entitled brats. Unfortunately, the stereotype is absolutely correct for about 50% of those involved in Greek Life. Parties are "exclusive" but aren't any different from normal house parties. Really, if you don't go Greek, you're not missing much.

Nice Variety, but Gets Bland After a While – There are many great places to eat, but the truly good food is just too expensive for most college students! At some point in college, students really should try to get to one or two of the nicer restaurants on Main Street. In the immediate area, there are many sandwich shops and quick-food establishments, but nothing to kill for.

Get the Funding You Need -- Usually – I was fortunate enough to receive large merit scholarships, but in addition that, the office of financial aid agreed to give me loans. Many of my friends who didn't receive merit scholarships found themselves struggling at times, but usually they found ways to get the money they need. They definitely could offer more aid to student--especially with the money they get off rich kids from out-of-state.

Student Co-Op System – There is an off campus system of student co-ops all around the University's campuses that, for those interested, can be a real eye-opener to students. It's one of the largest student co-op systems in the country with a variety of houses and cultures. Students looking for a supportive community, diversity, and exposure to new experiences can find it here. Beware: drug use can be prevalent in some of the co-ops, but others are completely substance free or close to such.

A Variety of Experiences – This school offers just about anything you could possibly want academically, socially, and otherwise. Although there definitely are valid complaints, at the same time, if you know what you want from your college experience, you'll definitely get it here. And even if you don't know what you want, chances are, you'll figure it out somewhere along the way and grow a lot as a person.

The Real World – The University of Michigan helps to prepare you for the real world. The professors are great with speaking to students and answering any questions.

Tough to Get Around Cheaply at U of M – Although there is a bus system at Michigan, it is often too troublesome to pay attention to the bus routes when you are in a hurry, which is often the case at U of M. The cabs are overpriced and thus it makes it so walking is generally the preferred option, unless you know of someone else who has a car on campus or you own one yourself.

Greek Life is similar to high school in that it allows for a tighter knit community within an institution as big as Michigan, which is comforting, but it also allows for gossip and drama as well, although far less severe as it was in high school. Greek students are sometimes stereotyped by non-Greek students as more socially oriented than academically oriented at Michigan, but make no mistake that many-a-Greek life student at Michigan dominates the academic scene.

The Greek Life system greatly assists partying if you're under 21, but many under 21 students go to bars after pre-gaming at house parties or Greek Life institutions. Skeeps and Rick's American Cafe are the best bars, but you will likely have to pay for cabs both to and from in the winter months because of their locations.

It's Tough – Michigan is stingy with the aid unless you're a genius or athlete. I would seek external scholarships, although they are good about need based money.

A lot of my friends drive around campus and finding a parking spot if difficult, especially during the day. Tickets are enforced pretty heavily, it is hard to get away with parking in a permit spot without one. Unless you have stuff figured out, just use the feet.

Still Figuring Things Out – I'm not exactly sure what my major will be. I'm a applicant to the business school and waiting to hear back from them. If I get in, I'll be really excited. The B-School does a great job hooking their students up professionally.

Generally Good – Wi-fi available in almost all dorms. Internet is fast. Printers are always functioning. Great software (ex: virtual sites)
College Senior 2011-05-07T00:58:55Z
It's Great – There are so many options right around campus on north and south university and south state street. They are amazing and affordable for college students if they want to eat outside the dining halls. Main street has very good food but it is a bit pricier.
College Senior 2011-05-07T00:57:11Z
Just Ok – The dining hall food is not very good but there are a lot of options and there is healthy food. There were many "cafes" that you can use part of your meal plan for that were very good and opened much later than the dining halls. No dining halls are open for Saturday night dinner which was a pain.

Guys & Girls:
Nerds, Partiers, and in-Betweens – The girls and boys here don't stand out from each other. Every person fits into 3 categories, nerds, who study all the time and 4 point every semester, the hard-core partiers who don't care what night of the week it is, they party any way, and the in-betweens, those who get good grades and don't really go out much.

Mini Las Vegas! When you walk around The University of Michigan campus, you are in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor. You get the college, academic feel as well as a mini Las Vegas feel at the same time! There is always something to do on and off campus. I love it!
