Computer labs can be crazy around test and midterms time. Some classes require laptops, so you really do need one. There are some wifi networks provided by campus but they can be really spotty and unreliable.

Health & Safety:
It's as safe as any campus, but they do send out crime alerts when any crime is reported and that can make it really scary. They are good at keeping students informed but it can make you feel like there is a lot of crime on and directly around campus.

The campus at University of Michigan is absolutely beautiful! They are doing a lot of renovations lately so if a campus building or residence hall isn't exactly up to date, you can bet it will be in the next few years.

The school isn't very cooperative with financial aid and working with a student to help them.
College Freshman 2013-11-09T18:40:34Z
It is quite inconvenient when it is raining, snowing or cold when you have to walk all over campus or wait for the buses.

Ann Arbor has endless choices when it comes to food choices off-campus. Food choices range from Middle-Eastern to Korean to Indian to African and everything in-between. Most places give student discounts and lots of places are open until 2 or 3am.

Health & Safety:
I have not seen the police too much, but I do get email reports when someone gets assaulted or robbed. I live off campus near some of the frat houses and I fear getting harasses sometimes.

Our campus is home to a ton of diversity and has a worldly/international feel to it.
College Freshman 2013-11-09T18:35:46Z
GO BLUE! Our school has immense school spirit (mostly for the football team, but also for the basketball team). People that don't even go to our school are die-hard fans.

The university has a mix of old and new housing options. Some of the dorms are old and the rooms are really small and a bit dirty. The newer housing facilities have really cool designs and the rooms are nicer and cleaner. The dorms are pretty close to the classes unless you live on one campus and have classes on the other-- then just take the bus, but it is quite far, but if you live on the campus where your classes are, then you are set.

I do not live on campus and I have never eaten in the dining halls so I cannot give my opinion on this.

I like my school a lot, but it is very expensive to live in Ann Arbor among other things.

I do not think that there are very many computer labs. I know that most students have their own laptops, but most students do not have their own printers and the computers at the library become very crowded when people go there to print things. Wireless is available in all of the university buildings and the speed is average. The cost of printing I think is a bit expensive.

I think the university does a pretty good job understanding that young people are going to find alcohol, drink and go to parties. The police and the university are pretty realistic, they just do their best to advise the students to try to be as safe as possible while doing it. They teach the students what kind of medical help is available to them if something happens to them or their friends, and tell them that they will not get in trouble for seeking help for each other.

I have not yet declared my major but I know of several different programs for majors and I know that the academic advisors help guide students' class choices and help them discover internship opportunities and other educational opportunities.

University of Michigan offers a degree program in almost everything. The professors are all very qualified in their fields even if some of them are not the best teachers. The registration process is a bit chaotic and students do a lot of scrambling to get the classes that they want, but I assume that this is pretty much the case at any big university. Workload depends on which classes the student takes and how many of them. Compared to my high school (Cranbrook Kingswood), the workload is less. Popular study areas include biology, psychology, and engineering study areas.

Ann Arbor is filled with awesome restaurants and shops and they are all close to campus. Downtown is filled with students and locals and there is always something to do.
College Freshman 2013-11-09T18:20:26Z
There are some really nice apartments available off campus; however, the nice ones are extremely overpriced when compared to apartments of the same quality in East Lansing and other places. Even low quality apartments that are close to campus are outrageously expensive and I would say that most are around one thousand dollars per month.

I do not hear much about Greek life, I just know that some of my friends have gone to the parties and have gotten drunk and have taken drugs. I also hear that people get raped at these parties so I have not gone to any.

I am not very sure about the strictness at my school because I do not live in school housing and I also do not do anything illegal or trouble causing.

easily accessible athletic facilities, two main buildings on opposite ends of campus. a lot of variety for IM sports, easy to join. Varsity athletics are very fun and popular.

downtown Detroit is about 45 minutes away. Ann Arbor has a small town feel but still has options, it's best to have a car to access them
Recent Alumnus 2013-11-06T10:12:11Z
there are really upscale restaurants a few blocks from town, but there are also great local restaurants right on campus that are affordable and delicious
