Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you don't like football, chances are you haven't been to a Michigan football game at "the Big House." It's hard to resist the thrill of the environment created by more than 100,000 screaming fans and high-quality athleticism. Students have parties on lawns before both home and away games. This excitement over athletics at Michigan isn't just reserved for football—although it is definitely the biggest example of it on campus.

The biggest games are those against Michigan's archrival, Ohio State. Games against Michigan State University come in a close second, so be prepared for some healthy competition in the atmosphere. Buying season tickets is a must if you want to get the most out of your undergraduate social experience. You can also purchase season tickets (discounted for students) for hockey, baseball, and basketball. Most other sporting events are free for students, making for a cheap way to go out and have fun with friends while showing your school pride. And there's no shortage of school pride at the University of Michigan.

School Spirit.

The biggest thing on campus is the football team. People go crazy around that time. The home game scene here on Saturday is just full of Maize and Blue. And we have the biggest college football stadium and it's always full. The basketball team is a big deal and also the Hockey team tose two probably tie. People express a lot of school spirit here though you can find a consistent fan base for any sport.

Go Big, Go Blue!

There is nothing like athletics at the University of Michigan. From Football Saturdays to the night basketball games, the sports dominate this college. The town and campus comes alive when the sports do. Not only are the varsity sports amazing, but there is just about every sort of sport imaginable here with the club and IM sports. Athletics is definitely one of the highlights of the University of Michigan.

Most Overlooked Teams

Gymnastics, swimming, field hockey, rowing, wrestling—these teams are often ranked high on the national scale but are overlooked by fans. Recently, the women’s field hockey team won the national championship. The men’s and women’s swimming teams are consistently among the best in the nation, as are the gymnastics teams. Wrestling and rowing are also considered to be Big Ten powerhouses.

School Spirit

The Michigan marching band is revered by all and widely considered to be among the best in the nation. Michigan students are not ashamed to wear their maize and blue proudly, and you’ll often see many students wearing Michigan gear around campus.

Getting Tickets

Every spring, students fill out their football ticket requests, and everyone gets them. The student section is filled with nearly 20,000 students. It ends up costing something like $13 a game, but it’s worth every penny. Ice hockey also has tickets that you must pre-purchase, but other events are usually available on a more consistent basis.

Best Place to Take a Walk

The Arb

Did You Know? The largest attendance of a hockey game ever happened at the Big House in December 2010, when more than 85,000 fans watched Michigan and Michigan State University face off in an outdoor event called "The Big Chill."
