There is nothing quite like Michigan athletics. Ranked among the best in the nation with 27 Division I varsity teams, Michigan has a respected reputation, not only in the Big 10 League, but also nationally. In addition to the school's stellar athletics, the spirit, enthusiasm, and lifelong dedication Michigan fans embody is unparalleled. Students agree that there is definitely something magical about stepping into the student section of your first Michigan game. Whether you're at a football game in the Big House or a women's water polo match, there is no doubt that you'll be greeted by die-hard Michigan fans, decked out in maize and blue, cheering on their fellow Wolverines in unison. Michigan's most popular sporting events are football games. Indeed, the Big House offers an atmosphere unlike any other, holding more than 100,000 fans. The biggest games are usually against Michigan's arch rival, Ohio State, although any given home game is pretty densely populated. In fact, Ann Arbor transforms on game days—streets, sidewalks, and front lawns fill with students sporting Michigan clothing and accessories. Purchasing season tickets is a must if you want to make the most out of Michigan's thriving athletic scene. Season tickets are offered for football, hockey, basketball, and baseball. Most other sporting events are free for students, making for a cheap way to go out and have fun with friends while showing your school pride. And there's no shortage of school pride at the University of Michigan.
