Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Surprisingly, the majority of student comments about campus food at UM aren’t entirely pessimistic. Everyone admits it’s not the best food, but it seems to get fewer complaints than other schools. The student body overwhelmingly picks North Campus’s Bursley Hall as the dorm with the best food service, and East Quad gets the lowest marks, so keep that in mind if you choose Michigan.

The dorms offer several dining choices and generally seem to do the most they can with what they have, which would explain the funny-looking meatloaf at the end of the week. As compared to other schools with improved dining options, Michigan offers the typical hot and cold entrées, salad bar, and desserts. Weekend brunches are known by many students as the best cooked meals of the week, and don’t be surprised to see tired and hungover classmates wearing pajamas and slippers. For what it’s worth, you can get by just fine, but don’t expect to write home about how great the grub is.

Expensive

Meals cost $10 each if you do the calculations. Food is average, but I've eaten better. Food quality depends on the dining hall you go to. North Quad is one of the better quality ones: good portions, healthy options, delicious. Mojo has the greatest variety, but they sometimes don't stock things up on time. North Campus only has one dining hall, which is kind of a problem.

Meal Plans

There are a a lot of different places to eat with your meal plan on campus, and the food is usually okay. Theres usually a large variety of food to choose from which makes finding things you like easier. It can be difficult to use all of your meals in one semester but the added options of BlueBucks and Dinning Dollars are nice for snacks and stocking your dorm with extra food. I think overall I would just rather not have a meal plan and cook my own food or find my own places to eat, but it might be an easier option to get a meal plan if you don't like doing this.

Everyone gets sick of the food at sometime. But that happens at any college campus. If you want to you can eat really healthy if you want.
