Campus Security

I have not had any real experiences with campus security. I do work at the Union in the evenings and we had one issue with a purse thief. As an employed student we were sent to monitor the thief until the police responded. They were there within a short amount of time, but the assailant got away.

It's Ann Arbor

This is probably one of the most liberal city ever. People smoke weed openly during Hash Bash. I've never encountered the police busting any places, but I know they're around when it comes to actual crime (violence, assaults, robberies).

Strict for Our Own Good

The police force on this campus is truly wonderful. They are friendly and always eager to talk to our students, whether face-to-face or through e-mails. They are diligent about keeping us alert during emergencies and about crime sprees in the area. It's true that there's been an increase in thefts in the area this past year, but we constantly get notices from the police and the university administration about keeping our doors and windows locked, our belongings attended, etc. so it's not as if the school is not doing its job. The university also has a strict and consistently enforced rule code when it comes to, among other things, underage consumption of drugs, although recently they have considered allowing medical exemptions for the ticketing of first-time offenders (as in, not punishing those who call 911 for medical help by giving them a ticket). I feel very safe on campus because the police and the administration are doing their jobs exactly as they should be doing.
