Most students purchase their own laptops—in fact, it is common to see laptops used in place of notebooks in many lectures. If you don't have a laptop, however, Michigan has you covered. The University has computing sites in nearly every building on campus, as well as locations established for the sole purpose of computing and printing. While some sites are more popular than others and therefore more crowded at times, students agree that there are usually plenty of computers to go around. And these aren't just any computers. The University is stocked with an array of Macs and PCs, all equipped with most of the software required to complete any coursework. If you come across a site without an open computer, you can access Michigan's wireless network from most places on campus using the ID-authenticated interface. This WiFi is accessible from any University-owned building, including residence halls. Students recommend purchasing your own laptop, even if you can rely on University-provided computers for most of your technological needs. Students find that personal printers are unnecessary, as the MPrint system allows you to send your work to any printer on campus, and the page limit (400 pages a semester) is reasonable. Regardless of what computer you use, you will spend a lot of time writing essays and completing other coursework in front of one during your undergraduate enrollment.
