Ann Arbor is a safe city, especially when compared to some of the surrounding areas like Ypsilanti. Students can expect relatively few incidents compared to other college campuses. The big issues are "Peeping Toms," robberies, and destruction of property. The campus police inform students of dangerous situations, arrests, or crimes via an email alert system. This gives students a heads up in situations where their safety is threatened, like in the unlikely event of a campus shooter. Public safety is covered on two fronts: the University's Department of Public Safety and the Ann Arbor Police Department. Communication between the two is pretty open, which makes for a safeguarded community.
As far as health goes, the University Health Service is highly criticized for haphazard and rude service. It pales in comparison to the University's world-renowned medical facilities that serve the public, which are admittedly a high standard to try and live up to for a campus clinic. With UHS, convenience trumps quality in the end because students are usually hard-pressed to get off campus for medical care, and the clinic is a close walk for most. The University takes health seriously, but don't expect any smiles from UHS while you're being treated.

Alright
I myself have never felt unsafe on campus, but crime alerts tell differently. There are robberies and assaults that seem almost regular by the amount of emails received.

Safety
Ann Arbor is a pretty safe city. Although some crimes occur every so often, the campus is always busy, thus ensuring that the students are safe all day long.

Crimes
I feel quite safe on campus and see campus police when I am at school too. But sometimes I get the crime alert emails and it scares me to walk at night at school.
