Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Ann Arbor has a reputation for being many things: artsy, liberal, cultural, scenic, and politically charged, to name a few. You can expect an interesting local atmosphere full of interesting people, both affiliated and unrelated to the University. It's hard to tell where the two entities separate, and the local scenery is virtually an even mix of campus and cityscape. Each brings a lot to augment the aesthetic as well as the social atmosphere.

The most cosmopolitan sections of the city are the State Street and Main Street areas. They are peppered with locally-owned shops and restaurants and salted with quirky architecture and the occasional familiar chain store. You won't be short on places to window shop, or to take your parents or visitors from out of town. Be sure to sample the local culture for yourself, too!

Variety of Activities

There is so much to do and be involved in at U of M. There is football on Saturdays. It is so much fun to be in the student section and be a part of the huge party that goes on there. I have been to concerts and orchestra performances. The restraunts are abundant. A short trip on the bus gets you to the local shopping areas.

It's All What You Make of It

Ann Arbor is what I would describe as an ideal college town; it's a far cry from the city I grew up in, but there is plenty to do, especially in downtown. The campus and the city more or less blend together, and you can find peace and quite in addition to excitement. Check out South University Avenue for some decent restaurants ("No Thai" is a must) and everyone should go to at least one football game.
