Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Ann Arbor nightlife is like a roller coaster ride: lots of fun, but full of restrictions and pesky risks. Most clubs and bars in the city are 21-and-up and the few 18-and-up venues are always packed with eager youngsters, which doesn't make for a very good vibe.

Sometimes the 21-and-up joints have special event nights hosted by groups on campus that can be fun to go to, and they're usually themed events, so that makes going out more interesting. Your best bet is going to a house or fraternity party. There are plenty of fellow students to socialize with, and the alcohol and entertainment are free. You won't find this perk at many other college campuses—so enjoy the cheap social activities and be responsible.

Always Has Been a Vibrant Night Life

There are clubs, bars, theaters, concert halls, tons of fraternities and sororities, other clubs, committees and usually free things going on around the campus. There is something for everyone.

Not Really Engaged Yet

I decided to not really get into the nightlife at Michigan, but from what I see and hear, there are plenty of venues here and lots of activities that keep students far from bored.

What’s the best way to get to the popular nightlife spots?

Facts

Bar Prowler

The bar scene is very active on Michigan’s campus. If you’re a true bar rat, here’s the schedule down to a science. Rest on Monday. On Tuesday, go to Mitch’s. On Wednesday, go to Rick’s. On Thursday, go to Scorekeepers. On Friday, go to Touchdown’s, and on Saturday most likely back to Rick’s. Of course, there are plenty of other bars, but if you want the best drink specials, stick to these spots. Grad students prefer Ashley’s and Conor O’Neill’s on Main Street, which are Irish pubs.

Only open from March until October, the outdoor patio/garden in the back and the large outdoor porch in front are packed when the weather is nice.
