Not Enough to Spare
The quality of off-campus housing is three out of four stars- very clean, convenient locations, etc. However, U of M is rapidly expanding every year, which means there's a tighter and tighter squeeze on available places to live. For instance, as of Fall 2012 two whole blocks of apartments totaling more than three hundred are going to be reassigned to freshmen instead of graduate students. That means that the independently-owned apartment complexes nearby the school have risen their rates, knowing that students are desperate enough for housing to snatch up any place they can find. U of M needs to step up and either buy up more of the housing units near its campus or to negotiate deals on our behalf, because one thing a student shouldn't have to worry about is where they'll be living.
