Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students don't have to go anywhere outside of walking distance, except for those who have to venture off campus (engineering majors, music enthusiasts, and freshmen living on North Campus are the main groups). Overall, U of M students are fairly satisfied with the public transportation system. They feel that the buses run regularly and are, for the most part, safe and clean. This is especially so for the University buses, which are necessary if you live or take classes on North Campus. Students, however, do have one complaint about public transportation: the system does not have the best operating hours. Many students feel that the buses should run later into the night when, arguably, they are needed most.

The University of Michigan bus system is very convenient, and the shuttles run on time. Thousands of students depend on them every day, and the bus system consistently gets good reviews. The public transportation may be another story. With odd hours and less-than-convenient stops, it may not be worth your time. The best advice: find a friend with a car. Or, then again, unless it’s an emergency, there is hardly a reason to leave what’s within walking distance, since everything you need is right on campus. Just think about that before you hop on the bus.

Public Transportation Is Great

There are a variety of public transportation modes available. I take the bus to main campus every morning. With early classes the buses can be fuller and you may have to wait. In the evening after work (4am), I call for a cab at no charge that picks me up and drops me off at the dorm.

On Campus Great, Typical Commuter Cost to Airport

Since the train has a station right in Ann Arbor, bus depot, and numerous taxi stands, the transportation outside of the free university bus system is excellent. It is a very mobile town.
