University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Weather had a new discussion posted by hayleynakos

It won't be different by much. You'll definitely be subject to to very odd, sometimes harsh weather conditions, but they shouldn't vary that much from New England. Winter is typically very chilly and unpredictable. In addition to that, you'll experience a lot of Lake-Effect Snow that comes from the state being surrounded by the Great Lakes.

I think that Michigan has more cloudy days than New England but the snow fall amounts aren't as high. You'll be fine.

At any time of the year, Michigan students experience unpredictable patterns of rain, snow, and sun. Though the winters are harsh, they're sandwiched between beautiful springs and autumns, where students frequent the campus lawns with picnic blankets and Frisbees. Michigan winters usually begin in November and endure all the way to the beginning of March. The cold weather hits hardest in December and January, skies often gray and wind speeds high. Well-adjusted students never leave home without dressing in a number of layers. Most students also invest in warm winter coats. In light of the unpredictable weather, the University does a remarkably good job at keeping the roads and sidewalks clear after snowstorms. Canceled classes due to weather are virtually unheard of. It's no wonder Michigan is shaped like a mitten—make sure you bring yours!
