Did You Know? The University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus hasn't closed its doors for weather-related issues since 1978. University officials say it's because the campus is mostly residential, so students and faculty can make it to class, even if the roads are bad.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Michigan isn't shaped like a mitten by accident—make sure you bring yours! The weather is nice for about four months out of the year, and you probably aren't going to be in classes for any of them. The eight months that constitute fall and spring semesters at the University of Michigan are full of fluctuating weather, most of it cold.

You might catch some rays of sun coming into the fall semester, which is a great way to start the school year, and near the end of spring semester, by which time you will be sad to see the snow go—not for lack of being sick of it, but for knowing that means another school year has passed. Snow covers the ground from about mid-November until March, with several meltings that are nothing more than false alarms of spring, but welcome false alarms, nonetheless. Through all of the bad weather, students at Michigan power through together. Good company can cure the worst of the bad-weather blues.

Not Bad

Coming from California, I excepted the weather to be terrible. Although it did snow a lot, I almost liked the snow better because it was prettier outside and less of a hassle than rain.

Stuck It up

People complain about the weather all the time. The reality is that it is really not that bad. Yes, it snows and is cold. Obviously.. it's the winter.. buy a jacket. The roads and sidewalks are always clear no matter the conditions and the busses are always running so if you are too sensitive to the weather just get on a bus. When it is not winter, the weather is absolutely gorgeuous and the students take full advantage of it
