Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Chances are you'll have your own laptop, but Michigan has you covered if you don't have one with you. The University has computing sites in nearly every building on campus. While some sites are more popular than others and therefore more crowded at times, students agree that there are usually plenty of computers to go around. And these aren't just any computers. The University is stocked with an array of Macs and PCs, all equipped with most of the software required to complete any coursework.

If you come across a site without an open computer, you can access Michigan's wireless network from most places on campus using the ID-authenticated interface. Residence halls also have Ethernet connections for residents' personal computers. Students recommend purchasing your own laptop, even if you can rely on University-provided computers for most of your technological needs. Regardless of what computer you use, you will spend a lot of time writing essays and completing other coursework in front of one during your undergraduate enrollment.

Computers on Campus

The availability of computers is great, and the speed is a little above average. However, the amount of free paper given to each student is a little stingy and there seems to be only a very select amount of places on campus where you can print off things you find on the University site, at other printing sites they'll just print off blank pages.

There are plenty of places all over campus that offers free use of computers. But beware, they are tough to come by during exam week. I think it is important to have your own laptop, as they are often required for a class. You may want to bring your own printer to school as well because Michigan only gives you 400 pages to print per a semester. I have gotten internet everywhere expect in my psychology lecture- only macs were able to get internet there for whatever reason. Odd.
