College Prowler Take
Although the administration and some of the less adventurous students attempt to downplay it, there is a noticeable drug community at University of Michigan. Since “Hash Bash” occurs every spring, and getting caught with pot only results in a small fine, one has to realize that drugs are certainly part of the UM culture. Whether or not there is a huge drug scene is open to debate. The bottom line: drugs are available at U of M, but the majority of the population wisely chooses other avenues of entertainment.
Almost all students agree that if you want drugs, you can most likely find them. Being that most students can comment on the subject, even if they choose not to be involved, only supports the fact that drugs are openly available at U of M. It doesn’t seem to be a big problem, but then again, those with drug problems probably won’t come out and admit it. While drinking seems to be the popular form of entertainment on campus, some prefer other methods of enjoyment. Either way, you’ve got to love the fact that thousands of students and vagabonds alike fill the streets of Ann Arbor every spring for a daze-filled day called “Hash Bash.” Cheech and Chong would be proud.

I couldn't name more than 10...
I couldn't name more than 10 people who regularly do NOT smoke marijuana (a testament to how widespread its usage is,) but unless you really look for it, hard drugs don't seem to make their presence that much.

There are so many different kinds...
There are so many different kinds of people here. You’ll meet people who have never even seen marijuana, and people who’ve snorted enough cocaine to kill a small horse! It’s just like anywhere else: if you look for it, you can find it, whatever ‘it’ happens to be. |

Some people use them, some don’t....
Some people use them, some don’t. We do have the infamous Hash Bash, a full day devoted to marijuana on campus. Cops galore! It’s more of a festival, though. Pothead or not: it’s kind of fun to be in town for that special day. |

I definitely would not say that...
I definitely would not say that there is a drug problem on campus, but I think that if you want to find some, you can usually do it. You just may have to look around, unless you’re into that scene. |
