College Prowler Take
The University of Michigan’s facilities are outstanding. Although it has its fair share of older, historic buildings, they are all completely updated and well cared for. The newer buildings are simply amazing, and any school in the nation would be hard pressed to compete with the resources made available to Michigan students. The University of Michigan seems to never rest when it comes to updating and building new facilities. Besides some outdated residence halls and older buildings here and there, most facilities are newly redone and up-to-date. Constant renovations on campus can be a bit irritating to students at UM, but they must realize that not everything can get done in the summer months. New buildings are popping up on campus all the time (the Life Sciences Institute, a new hulking three-building complex, right near central campus, was constructed just a few years ago), and while the vast majority of the buildings are aged and historic, their insides are fairly new. Some areas, such as library reading rooms, have retained their historic aura, as well. The gyms could be updated, and probably will be within the next few years, but from the stately law quad, to the NASA-sponsored research facilities on North Campus, the University of Michigan’s facilities are very tough to beat.

The facilities are great here. A lot of the classroom buildings are very historic with ivy, wood, and the whole nine yards. Other buildings are state-of-the-art, brand spankin’ new. Overall, UM provides its students with a very distinct learning environment. |

The research facilities on North Campus are absolutely incredible. They have to be seen to be believed. Wind tunnels, nuclear testing labs, audiovisual centers, you name it, we got it. |

The facilities here are better than at many other midwestern universities. There are two main athletic complexes for students to use, so that’s not a problem. The student center (we call it the Union) is large, and it’s also a pretty famous building. The Union has a bunch of food places, a bookstore, pool hall, libraries, coffee shop, and much more. Overall, I’m really satisfied. |

Overall, the University recognizes the need for continuous improvements throughout the campus. However, more emphasis could be placed on extracurricular student needs, such as athletic facilities and student lounges. |
