College Prowler Take

Although many students gripe about the weather, the cost of living, and the calculus GSIs with incoherent accents, one thing holds true: the Michigan experience is one to be envied by all. Students here love their school, and they’re not ashamed to say so. Few schools have a greater academic reputation, better sports, and more opportunities for extracurricular involvement There are 900 student organizations from which to choose.

Picking a school is a tough decision, and no one expects you to know exactly what you want to do with your life before you’ve even graduated high school. Fortunately, a school like Michigan can help you find yourself by giving you the chance to try everything under the sun. Nearly every academic area is in the top 10, the sports teams warrant immediate respect, the social life is right with the times, and there are so many ways in which to become involved (it’s almost impossible to become a couch potato here). As a Michigan graduate, your degree will be one of the most highly respected in the nation. Graduate schools respect the Michigan name, and undergraduate placement into top schools speaks directly to that fact. And by joining the ranks of the largest alumni population in the world (over 450,000), you’ll be a member of a proud family for life. If you choose Michigan, you’ll have to try awfully hard to dislike the place after four wonderful years. Join the thousands of maize and blue faithful, and Go Blue!

I love Michigan! I’ve had the best two years here, and I’m already sad that I only have two more left. I’ve met the most amazing friends and people. I really enjoy my classes and my major. Overall, I have no complaints and wouldn’t have chosen anywhere else to spend my college years.

I think Michigan students can be a bit snotty about their school. I’m guilty of it. But if you’ve got it, you’ve got it. And Michigan’s got it.

I love this school. I didn’t visit before I got here and was a little concerned that I’d be out of place; but the people here are great, campus life is wonderful, and you can get involved with almost anything that you want. I know that I’d be miserable at almost any other school.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to Michigan before I enrolled. Now I can’t see going anywhere else. Michigan provides the full college experience, and I couldn’t be happier with the time I spent in Ann Arbor.

Well, you will be just a number here. That was hard for me to adjust to. Ann Arbor is very expensive, especially for out-of-state tuition. It’s a nice town and a great atmosphere. However, it can be competitive. Sometimes I ponder what it would have been like if I went to a small, private school. Here, it almost seems like professors are more interested in their research then anything else. But then again, there are the good ones who will stay after office hours and help you out whenever needed. Classes are pretty big—lectures will have tons of people, but labs and discussions are smaller. But if it’s a lecture, does it really matter how big the classes are? I’m not a big fan of the grading system, but that also depends on which school you go into.
