I interact with MSU and Wayne State a lot. Both are about an hour away, give or take. But staying on campus is never a problem. I really like how the university is mixed right into the very fabric of the city of of Ann Arbor. There is no street dividing the city from the school, I like this blend.

Off-campus housing is pretty expensive, and all the good places get snapped up in early November. If you want to get something good, you'd better be well organized.

After a semester at UofM you'll find yourself having special bonds and allegiances to certain eateries around town. My personal favorites include BTB (Big Ten Burrito), Bell's Pizza (can you say "late night specials?") and Mr. Spots (best burger in town). Zingerman's deli has been given great reviews by Zagat and is a must visit (gets crowded on football weekends). Also, the Buffalo Wild Wings on State Street is a great place to watch a big game.

Markley is definitely the most social dorm. Stockwell is pretty quiet and tame. South Quad is a lot of fun, too, and it’s very close to campus.

I brought my own, but every dorm has a computer lab that’s open 24 hours. It really is not a necessity, most of my friends do not have a computer, and they do just fine. I mean, there are so many labs, and most are either open 24 hours or stay open pretty late.

Bring your own computer. Almost everyone does, and it is so much easier than using the computer labs. But there are always a few computers open. The Internet is T3, which is nice, and you have plenty of storage space and paper to use.

It’s moderately diverse here. There’s certainly a large white population, but there are minorities on campus. The two largest minority groups here, I think, are blacks and Asians.

People are so friendly here. I grew up out East, and coming here was a culture shock—even strangers smile at you. I think it’s a Midwest thing.

Club sports are great. At a school this big, it’s hard to be on the varsity team unless you’re a high school All-American, so club sports are often played at high levels of competition, and you get to travel around the country to compete against other college’s club teams.

This year, we had a really mild winter. Overall, it wasn’t bad. This is the first time I have lived in seasons. Fall is really pretty. And I think winter is fun because I have never lived in snow. It takes a little time and some warm clothes before you get used to the weather in Michigan, but we’re young, so we can handle it.

The weather around here generally sucks. The winters are fraught with a lot of snow, whereas the summer sun can sometimes be unbearable. The spring and the fall can be really beautiful, but weather during those months fluctuates too much for you to actually settle on one particular weather pattern. Winter can be horrible because it makes you not want to leave your room. Sitting cooped up in a room for many months during the harsh winter is not my idea of fun.

I think Michigan students can be a bit snotty about their school. I’m guilty of it. But if you’ve got it, you’ve got it. And Michigan’s got it.

I love Michigan! I’ve had the best two years here, and I’m already sad that I only have two more left. I’ve met the most amazing friends and people. I really enjoy my classes and my major. Overall, I have no complaints and wouldn’t have chosen anywhere else to spend my college years.

There are 32 fraternities on campus (not including multi-cultural ones) and 16 sororities (again, not including multi-cultural ones). The Greek Life at Michigan is big, not big enough. If you're not into frat parties, there are plenty of clubs and house parties that will quickly fill the niche.

I love this school. I didn’t visit before I got here and was a little concerned that I’d be out of place; but the people here are great, campus life is wonderful, and you can get involved with almost anything that you want. I know that I’d be miserable at almost any other school.

Well, you will be just a number here. That was hard for me to adjust to. Ann Arbor is very expensive, especially for out-of-state tuition. It’s a nice town and a great atmosphere. However, it can be competitive. Sometimes I ponder what it would have been like if I went to a small, private school. Here, it almost seems like professors are more interested in their research then anything else. But then again, there are the good ones who will stay after office hours and help you out whenever needed. Classes are pretty big—lectures will have tons of people, but labs and discussions are smaller. But if it’s a lecture, does it really matter how big the classes are? I’m not a big fan of the grading system, but that also depends on which school you go into.

The campus is beautiful, the people are warm and welcoming, and the academics are superior. On campus, you are surrounded by diverse poeple who love their school. You are bound to pass at least 10 people wearing UMich gear. Go Blue!
