I really enjoy being here because it is so diverse. There isn't a lot of ethnic diversity here, but among the students that are here, there is so many different types of kids that go here. No one is afraid to express themselves. No one seems to judge anyone else and everyone is friendly to one another.

Not much diversity, pretty much everyone is white. But I do notice many ethnic student groups, and variety in sexual orientation and economic status.

Lots of Native American cultural opportunities, as well as a active multicultural center.

UMD is notorious for its racial and social homogeny, and is one of few colleges where racism is not only alive, but has been publicized locally and nationally. The school is quite cliquey, more so than other colleges seem to be, which may be because of size and location, but also because everyone here seems to think and act alike, since many people come from exurbia or small hick towns. UMD has a Cultural Center, but I feel the school could do a better job promoting tolerance and creating a more diverse, open campus.

It's located in Northern Minnesota, so I forgive it.
