Best of Both Worlds

There are a ton of places to hang out and study, and since it's close to downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, plenty of places to go shopping and explore for different attractions and activities. It's never a dull moment here.

Wonderful Campus

Aside from the enormous amount of construction going on at the moment, the campus is beautiful and very well-maintained. It's the perfect mix of being in a big city, while still having easy access to things like lakes and parks. The student union is a great atmosphere to go study, grab lunch at the food court, or to see a movie on the weekends. Also, the rec center s very state-of-the-art as it is, but there are huge additions in the coming year. All in all, the U has a fantastic campus!

Diversity in the U of MN

Diversity at the U of MN comes in both people and groups. There are hundreds of student groups and tens of thousands of students to be in a group with. As a result, the U also has so many courses - anything you could think of to take as a class is there. This characteristic gives me flexibility in setting my schedule that I think I've been spoiled with it. And as a result of that same diversity, the opportunities don't stop with classes, but as well as seemingly endless opportunities to get internships, career advice, networking connections; anything.

The Weather Is Generally Entertaining!

Some days the weather is gorgeous and warm. Other days, the wind is strong and the temperature is cold. It completely depends on the day and month. Winter is very cold while spring and fall are warm and breeezy.

Weather Review

Minnesota winters are cold and bitter! The campus does an excellent job of plowing the roads and clearing sidewalks for students to get to class.

Clubs Offer Everything Imagniable

There are literally thousands of student groups and clubs on campus that allow you to immerse yourself in whatever you enjoy doing. Be that preparing for the zombie apocalypse with zombie enthusiasts, or learning how to become a better research scientist with the Future Scientists Association. There is something unique for everyone here at the U.

Life Is a Smorgasbord

You can find pretty much anyone you might be into at the U. From the preppy yacht club types, to the Gothic rocker, you can take your pick. The girls are great, if you can make it through the bundles in the winter, they shed the layers in the spring at a feverish pace.

Popular but Not Abundant

Greek life is popular for parties freshman year, but beyond that it doesn't dictate the social scene. Greeks are viewed neither positively nor negatively and there is housing available off of University Ave or in Dinkytown for most fraternities and sororities.

Lots of Fun

There are plenty of clubs to get involved with. I am in the campus Dance club that does shows twice a year. we have a zombies vs humans and any thing else you can think of. If it's not all you have to do is get the required number of people and fill out the form.

It's Minne-Snow-Ta

It can be miserable at sometimes. The weather is always changing and it snows a lot but that is just minnesota. You may have to leave slightly earlier to go to classes in the winter but it is usually fine. They do a nice job of keeping the roads clear

I Love It!

The University of Minnesota has great research facilities, especially at the College of Biological Sciences. I get to learn from professors who not only teach, but use science in the actual field.

Any Way You Want It

At the University of Minnesota, anybody has the opportunity to start any club that they can think of. All one needs is five willing members and five dollars. I love this because it is a perfect example of the open and accepting atmosphere here.

I Love It Here

Classes can sometimes be challenging and difficult but very interesting. It is really nice to live on campus and on my own. Everyone is nice most of the time and it is always great meeting new people. It's easy to get around and going out with friends is always great.

Be open to trying new things. I transferred here from a small college town so there were so many new opportunities for me. Its a big school but easy to get involved to feel at home.

Can Always Count on the Fans

Despite a range of season records ranging from Football to Hockey, Gopher fans are proud of their teams and always there to support them at home games. The campus really turns maroon and gold. Facilities are excellent, especially the new stadium.

Big Research University

At such a large school, it is impressive how accessible labs are for biological sciences students! The classes require work, but prepare you for concepts used in labs. Most profs are friendly and welcome students to office hours!

Curently Under Construction

The transportation currently is awful. It is under construction to install a lightrail, and while this will be convenient in upon completion, it is currently causing millions of headaches. The buses are hard to find and few in numbers.

Greeks Are a Close Knit Community

Greeks know each other and make the school much smaller. There are always fun parties and its great to meet other people. Everyone in the greek community is very nice and welcoming. If you aren't in a frat or sorority, you can attend house parties and go to apartments, however, its not guaranteed you will find one every weekend.

Research

There are tons of opportunities for students to participate in real research at the University. This is pretty awesome because students are able to research things that are part of their major or area of interest and give them hands-on experience that helps them after they graduate.

I absolutely love it here. This school is great! I'm really happy with my decision to come here for a lot of reasons. First of all, I love the huge campus. It's enormous, but that only makes for more opportunities, in my opinion. I'm also a big fan of the science programs they have here. They're really well-known for a lot of the research they've done. The location is great as well. Minneapolis is an amazing city full of interesting things to do. If I had to make the decision over again, I would for sure chose the U of M again!
