College Prowler Take
Like many things on the campus of Ole Miss, what you see isn’t always what you get. Outwardly, Ole Miss appears to have no drugs, but there are groups that do use them, whether prescription or illegal. If that is your scene, you can find what you want. It just takes knowing the right people, which is true in most towns. But be careful, cops here might shrug off beer in a cup during football games, but they do not overlook hard drugs. They have a very strict drug policy in Mississippi, and Oxford is very much in step with the state on that issue. The fines are heavy, and the jail time is worse. If you choose to do drugs, be careful—and not just because you can get in trouble from the authorities. Alcohol is, by far, the most heavily used drug at Ole Miss. It may seem strange the first time you go into the Grove and have lunch at a friend’s tent with his or her parents, and they’re all sitting and drinking together—even the ones who are underage—but that’s life at Ole Miss. There’s a common phrase that’s plastered on shirts and posters that says, “Oxford is a drinking town with a football problem.” That perfectly sums up what you will see during the school year. Sure, there are some groups who are adamantly opposed to drinking, but those groups are few and far between at Ole Miss. If the drinking scene isn’t for you, you may want to go armed with similarly minded friends. You’ll have to get used to the fact that everyone around you will be drinking and that you will ultimately end up as the designated driver all the time.

The drug scene at Ole miss is there, but it depends on who you hang out with. Usually it's just smoking weed, but there are a good amount of people that do harder drugs like cocaine. Drinking is much more the drug of choice at Ole Miss.

While I know there are people on...
While I know there are people on campus who use drugs, I never come in contact with any myself, except for the ever-popular alcohol and cigarettes. I think it depends on the type of person you are and who you hang out with, as to the prevalence of drugs in your campus life. You could make it as big or little a part of your life as you want. I choose little. |

There’s certainly a drug scene on...
There’s certainly a drug scene on campus. Primarily, drug use tends to lean towards alcohol and marijuana, though the harder stuff is present, also. Many more people deal and use than meets the eye, but the use is there, if you know where to look. |
