Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Though some buildings may not look appealing from the outside, the insides of these buildings have been kept in good shape and continuously renovated over the years. These facilities are just waiting for their exterior faces to match the attractive settings within.

The most popular facility, in terms of looks and functionality, is the Turner Center. It houses the campus’ fitness equipment. Many students feel that it is a great athletic facility. It has everything from swimming pools to Ping-Pong tables to studios for group exercise classes. Though the Student Union looks like it came straight out of the ‘70s, it has a lot to offer. The bookstore, the box office, the university post office, the Southern Breeze, and some decent restaurants are all housed in the Union. It’s also pretty centrally located on campus. The J.D. Williams Library, the University’s main library, is open until 2 a.m. It’s also open 24 hours starting two weeks before finals.

Ole Miss Is Beautiful

I've never been to a campus so pretty all year round. I attended a private school in St Louis, MO right after high school. I thought it was awesome until I arrived on campus at Ole Miss. The recreational faciality is state of the art. All the athletic venues rate as class A. Classrooms and labs are really nice. The university works extremely hard at the upkeep with freshly planted flowers.

Update in Progress

There are some places on campus that are so state of the art, like the engineering buildings, that I am jealous that I don't have more classes there. Then there are other buildings, like the chemistry building where I spend most of my time, that are in desperate need of a make-over. There is currently construction going on that, while a major pain to deal with, will hopefully make the rest of the campus both beautiful and functional.

The Library Is the Spot

The library is amazing, and yes I said it, it's amazing. There are so many places and rooms to go if you want to sit down and study. If you love Starbucks like I do, then you can grab a cup of coffee, sit back and read the newspaper all in the library.

Favorite Things To Do

Go for a swim, a run, play a little tennis, or just sit in the Grove and do a little homework or pleasure reading. You can also check out two separate art collections: one at the School of Southern Studies and the other at the Mary Buie/Kate Skipwith Museum.

There are tons of different things to do off campus, but some students don’t take advantage of the opportunities on campus. Recently, students have caught the fever and often play a pick-up game of ultimate Frisbee in the Grove. There’s always an exhibit to check out on display in the School of Southern Studies in Barnard Observatory. You can also go to the J.D. Williams Library and into the Music/Blues Archive to learn more about famous musicians while listening to their collections, which they donated to the archive.
