Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Don’t let the small town size and lack of well-known places fool you. This little town knows how to dine and prepare top-notch food that’s nothing like chain restaurants’ dishes. Most people who go to college have a very restrictive budget to work with, but the great thing about most restaurants in Oxford is that they are conscious of this fact, and they cater to their student patrons. Right off the bat, there are some good things to learn, like how many eateries have lunch menus that provide the same amount of food they do for dinner. Another valuable lesson is that places serve huge portions. Get a doggie bag, and take some home with you for the next day. If you’re looking for some great food, good music, and are under 21, go to Proud Larry’s—but go early and stay for the music. This way, you won’t have to pay a cover. On weekends (especially football weekends), go to dinner early, or you’ll be met with some really long lines.

Good advice comes from upperclassmen who have learned things the hard way. It’s a great idea to buy a refrigerator for your dorm room or rent one from the University. For one, you can keep your leftovers to eat later. Also, drinks and snacks from vending machines or convenience stores on campus are more expensive than they are at the grocery store, so it pays to do a little shopping and keep snacks and drinks in your fridge. It’s wise to make this investment, and while groceries may seem pretty pricey when you’re in the checkout line, it will pay off each week when you’re able to save money.

Ole Miss Dining

There are a lot of local places in Oxford Mississippi to eat. They are all close to the campus. The prices range from $10-$30 a plate. This town is great when it comes to down home southern style cooking, but we also have some great Mexican food, Greek food, and the original McAlister's as well as Abner's.
