Public transportation in Oxford has greatly improved over the past couple years. The University brought back Rebel Ride, a trolley that operates at night and provides students with a safe alternative to drinking and driving. They also added a bus system, Oxford University Transit (OUT), that runs through campus and to the main parts of Oxford. However, OUT only runs from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The city has a few taxi services: Rebel Taxi, Angel Taxi, and Jack’s Charter Services, which also runs shuttles to the Memphis and Tupelo airports.
Most students still choose to travel by car. If you don’t have one, there are plenty of people on campus who would be willing to let you drive theirs—provided you acted as DD (designated driver) for the night. I know it sounds crazy, but there are more economical and environmentally friendly methods of transport. Your own feet are a great source of transportation, especially when you live on campus. Nothing is very far away, not even the Square. It’s only about a mile from campus. And you can always get a bicycle. It’s cheaper than a car, saves a lot of time, and is great exercise.
