Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

When it comes to picking favorites, UNL students care more about the convenience and reputation of a dorm than the quality of its rooms. Some students are willing to sacrifice shut-eye for partying (Abel), while others are willing to walk three extra blocks to class so they can actually study in their rooms (Harper-Schramm-Smith). Students really enjoy living on campus, but many feel that it’s important to choose a dorm with a personality that matches their own.

Perhaps more importantly, there are many strong friendships that are bound while living on campus. At UNL, all freshmen are required to live on campus, which means the dorms have a wide variety of residents. Even if you aren’t BFF with your roommate, you’re bound to meet someone you like on your floor—there are like 60 to 100 other undergrads. It has been proven that students are truly better off living like sardines their freshman years than living the suite life due to the bonding experience. The friendships you will forge in the dorms will make your college years that much more meaningful and fun.

Freshman Housing

There are many options for freshman to choose from for housing. Selleck is convenient, but small. HSS, Abel/Sandoz and Knoll are the best living options.

Dorm Live Is Great the First Year.

If you are going to be a incoming freshman I would highly suggest living in the dorms. It is a great way to meet new people, become involved on campus, and very convenient. You can walk to all your classes on city campus. The dining halls are very close to all the dorms. The social atmosphere is great, the dorms hold events for the students. It is definitely the best option for incoming freshman.
