Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

UNL students feel overwhelmingly safe on campus. The campus police, blue-lights, 475-RIDE, and campus escort are some of the many safety precautions that help them feel secure. By day, students don’t lock their dorm rooms, and by night, students traipse through all corners of campus in the dark. Even seniors at UNL say they’ve never heard of negative incidents that deserve any undue attention.

Lincoln is a very trusting town and, for the most part, people don’t abuse that trust. This is Nebraska, and in the “Heartland,” people worry more about national football championships than they do their own personal safety. But don’t be too careless—unchained bikes do get stolen and there are some shady characters on and around campus from time to time. But, on the whole, parents definitely shouldn't be afraid to send their kids here—UNL is an exceptionally safe place for anyone to live.

Best Places to Live

The health center on campus is paid for by student fees and is staffed with great doctors. UNL has its own police department which is always patrolling campus.

Universal Security and Safety

Before even enrolling in classes the University of Nebraska at Lincoln sent e-mails regaurding safety at the campus. It was not that there was a concern, the campus was simply giving me information on emergency locations and phone numbers to call in case of any emergency. The campus has a very active campus police that encourages students to advise them of any ongoing crime. At the same time they encourage personal safety and how to be safe walking around this generally big campus.
