Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The drug scene on campus is very small, almost inconspicuous. Stories of drug use are not popular, and drugs are practically never seen. When drugs hit the social scene, if at all, it’s usually during a party, or it’s kept behind closed doors with friends. Those who could make any comment on the drug scene at UNLV were almost impossible to find, as drugs on campus are rare or hidden extremely well. However, the statistics do show that drugs are found somewhere at UNLV. Since a low percentage of students live on campus, you won’t be hit by a strong odor of marijuana smoke seeping under the doors, and since many students are older and have lives outside of the University, you won’t find potheads walking around campus, trying to make money by dealing.

Drinking is much more popular with students. Periodically, beer bottles can be found in the parking lot near the dorms, and with more than 500 bars in Las Vegas, drinking is a much easier and more socially acceptable habit to support. But then again, it’s not common to see students wasted and passed out on campus. Since it is expensive to drink, drinking is more of a social outing than a reason to get wasted.

Haven't Seen Much

If there's a hardcore drug scene, it must be underground because I haven't seen or heard of it. The only thing we really deal with are the occasional smokers; I don't think I've ever seen anyone drink around here.
