Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For the most part, the UNLV campus is surprisingly safe. The neighborhoods around UNLV are not the best, but few major crimes occur on the campus, though there have been some. Those committing the crimes are usually non-students. Car break-ins occur regularly, particularly when a concert is held at the Thomas & Mack Center.

UNLV police officers and security patrol the campus, even at night. Some will go so far as to check out open doors in buildings late at night. Call-boxes connecting to UNLV police are scattered throughout the campus to assist those in need, but their effectiveness has been questioned. Large shuttles are available to drive students to the general area of their cars also. Regardless of the campus’ general safety, do not walk alone at night, as UNLV is still in the center of Las Vegas, which is a transient town that does not always attract the highest-quality people. Safety while going out at night calls for extra caution. Use common sense, and always walk in groups with at least one guy present if possible. The UNLV police do everything they can to keep the campus safe, yet it is up to the students to take it from there while out in the city.

So-So

While attending the University of Nevada Las Vegas safety was never an issue, but you hear horror stories of things happening late at night on campus because of the lack of security. Parking is a huge problem there and is not well lit up.

Safety to the Best

I have always felt safe at UNLV's campus. There's always police men on campus at all times and the securities are surrounding the parking lots at all times. It's a peaceful, beautiful place that students and staff enjoy. Police is always happy too help others.

Generally Safe

Our campus is covered with blue police lights that have a button to push if you ever feel as though you could be in harms way. Although these are everywhere, I have never pushed one and have heard that many of them are fake, however I am unaware if this is true or not. Campus police regularly patrol our campus whether it be on horseback, foot patrol, or in their car. Once darkness falls, several police vehicles can be found around campus consistently. Being just behind the strip, and in an area heavily populated by homeless people, if you choose to walk around at night, you will find many random creepers strolling about. Other than that I feel a general sense of being safe, and never walk the campus alone at night.
