College Prowler Take
Housing is both easy and difficult to obtain in Las Vegas; it just depends on how high your ambitions are. If you’re looking to rent alone or with a roommate, finding housing can be a fairly simple process. Many people who need a roommate post ads on bulletin boards located all over campus and specify exactly what kind of roommate they’re looking for. If you need a place for yourself, there are plenty of apartments to the north and east of the campus that are within quick walking distance from UNLV, while to the west you can find some that are about a five-to ten-minute walk away. Prices are pretty decent compared to most other large cities, and the closeness of the Strip can keep you entertained yearlong. If you’re looking to buy something, go for it. Condominium prices have plummetted in price in recent years. The housing market once boomed in Las Vegas in the late ‘90s, when moving to Las Vegas became the thing to do. Now there's a nice range of choices for potential buyers. Many apartment renters have had trouble around the Valley, as a lot of apartments have been converted into condos, leaving the lower-income market somewhat lacking when it comes to space available. Either way, the vast majority of students who live off campus live either with family (if they’re local) or in a rental. With some hunting, you're bound to find the right match. If money is tight, you'll probably need to get a roommate or two.

There are several apartment complexes near campus. The problem is, the campus isn’t in the best area in the world. But you can find something nice within 15 minutes. |

Living off campus is nice, sort of like an escape from school. Traffic sucks, though. |

It’s totally worth it because it’s cheaper, but to stay anywhere decent, you have to have a car. Everything around here is ghetto. |

If you want to live off campus, invest in a gun. Bad neighborhood. I live on campus and plan to until I graduate. Compared to an apartment, it’s not too expensive. |

Housing off campus is definitely worth it. It’s seriously way cheaper than living in the dorms, and there are some pretty nice apartments around town. |
