Parking Permits

UNLV Parking Services is in the Claude I Howard building, two buildings to the west of Lied Library on Harmon Avenue. Permits can be purchased during new student orientation, at Parking Services, or online.

College Prowler Take

Parking is one of UNLV’s biggest topics of debate. Because the campus is landlocked, UNLV officials and architects have strategically seized much of the school’s parking to make room for new buildings. Five parking garages are factored into the campus's master plan, and some construction headway has been made, but it'll be a while until the blueprints are a reality. The Thomas & Mack parking lot rarely fills up except when the rodeo is in town. The rodeo always comes to Las Vegas (thus, UNLV) during finals week and causes total chaos on campus. To make way for horses, stalls, and dirt, hundreds of student spots are roped off, causing students to be late for class because they can’t find a parking place anywhere.

Additionally, with new buildings encroaching on the vacant spaces and the student body ever-growing, parking lots are slowly being sliced away to make way for new construction projects. Shuttles are now in service to drive students, faculty, and staff to the edge of campus from their faraway vehicles, with the wait being eight to ten minutes, but few people are utilizing them.

The parking is horrible and is getting worse. We now have shuttles that almost no one uses; the money would have been better spent investing in another parking garage.

The parking scene is horrible. Parking runs out quickly, and spaces are disappearing with every new building constructed. Campus planners should either build another parking garage or increase the size of the current one, or both.
