There are no parties on campus, and we don't really have frat houses. However, if you're looking for a party, there will always be flyers! Just don't be dissapointed---for a lot of the clubs you have to be 21 but not always.

The biggest issue when it comes to drinking and drugs is really if you live on campus. It only takes one offense to get you kicked out, so just be smart. Getting caught drinking underage on campus is definitely not going to be a good thing.

The facilities are better than I expected. The library has ample space for studying, and the athletic equipment all seems to work.

Las Vegas has only two types of...

Las Vegas has only two types of weather: either really, really hot in the summer or really, really cold in the winter. I advise to bring a lot of shorts, tanks, and flip flops for the summer and a warm winter coat. During spring season and fall, it's really nice weather so you can even wear spring dresses and fall gowns without bringing a light jacket.

UNLV does have a good security...

UNLV does have a good security system. There are always cops patrolling the area and going through parking lots making sure our cars are safe. We even have cops on horses to help with traffic when students need to cross the street. Overall, I feel safe on campus.

The facilities at UNLV are getting...

The facilities at UNLV are getting better each year. Just recently, the wellness and rec center building opened up. There is an indoor track, indoor swimming pool, free instruction classes, and a walk-in pharmacy with diet and nutrition experts on hand to give you an evaluation. Also, the student union was newly renovated last year, and it's become a popular hangout for all students.

I've never been to a party on campus. If you're over 21, there are tons of nightclubs to choose from in the casinos on the Las Vegas strip.

Attempt to get into the honors college and get their dorm floor. It is the nicest floor. Also, the no-substance floors are normally better than the others because the other floors are normally quite disgusting.

Weather is disgustingly hot in the summer, but winter is a different story. Winters in Vegas can be strange, with some days being warm and others freezing or below.

Security is being beefed up, but...

Security is being beefed up, but if you have a bike, I would suggest having a hard-core lock system, like maybe two or three. Bikes are commonly stolen. Also, the school is in a high-crime area, so don't walk alone. Ladies, I suggest pepper spray as a good item to have with you at all times. The school itself is generally very safe, but the areas surrounding the school are not good.

It's freezing in the winter and blazing hot from mid-spring through early-fall. Have a sweatshirt handy for the nights.

The only drinking and drugs that happen on campus occur in the dorms. As long as the students do it in their rooms, door shut, and don’t cause trouble, they won’t get in trouble.

The parking is horrible and is getting worse. We now have shuttles that almost no one uses; the money would have been better spent investing in another parking garage.

UNLV is better than the locals say it is.

I don’t wish I were somewhere...

I don’t wish I were somewhere else. I love UNLV, especially at this point. The campus is in a state of flux, still in the baby university stages, but it’s on its way to being an incredible school. My experience at UNLV so far has exceeded my expectations in a good way. I didn’t think that I would meet so many people, but I do want to get involved more with campus activities. I think that will make my experience better.

Some of our teachers are good, and some are awful, but I imagine that’s how it is at most campuses. The biology department is horrible. The classes are interesting, depending on the teacher.
