Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Ah yes, the ultimate question on any prospective student’s mind: Are the girls and guys hot? The answer at UNH is “yes” and “no.” Since the school is fairly large, there is every type of beauty imaginable. There are the traditional pretty boys and sorority girls, as well as the sporty types, the smart types, the girls and guys next door, the dirty hippies, rugged mountain men, and those who might not grace the cover of a magazine. But, any way that you look at it, there is someone for everyone. It’s safe to say that in the looks department, the guys and girls at UNH won’t disappoint.

All students agree that no matter what your taste in guys or girls, everyone is generally friendly and accepting of whatever type of beauty you may possess. As far as meeting people goes, it’s all in the effort. Guys at UNH, especially freshmen, must realize that they’re going to get “shot down” every once in a while, and girls shouldn’t fall head over heels in love with every rugged lumberjack-looking fellow either. (Don’t worry ladies, there are plenty of trees out there that haven’t been chopped down yet.) Considering the size of UNH, finding companionship with someone special won’t be easy, but with the right attitude, at least you’ll have fun trying.

Diversity

The typical student is an individual. Everyone seems to have their own style. Interests include sports, especially hockey and football seem to be popular. The dress is day to day . The weather determines what students wear. If it is snowing then sweat pants it is but if its nice then the attire is more dressy. There is a great social life at unh. Everyone is so friendly. Public display of affection is minimal.

Girls Are Good

There are more girls than guys at this school which is a plus, and mostly all of them are friendly. Like every social place, there are attractive ones and then not so attractive ones.

Facts

Social Scene

Every student at UNH desires to make the most out of their college experiences. Almost everyone is friendly—to some extent. Every weekend, there is a party to be found or an event where people can meet others, but mostly, the only places people meet on the weekends are the fraternity parties. Outside of parties, classes and the library are the next best thing. Study partners are a great way to meet prospective lovers or just good friends.

Hookups or Relationships?

With the large Greek party presence on the weekends, the bulk of student relationships are formed in random hookups, but relationships seem to be found everywhere students meet and interact. Most random hookups from frat parties tend to evolve into relationships as well (some more serious than others).

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Obviously, the frat parties are the number one place to meet people looking to have a good time, since the majority of people at the parties are people you won't know. Other than that, the next best thing is to hang out downtown at the bar or the local pizza shops where lots of people flock early in the morning.

Dress Code

The Greek look can range from hipster casual with the fake authentic trucker hat to a polo shirt with the stonewashed jeans. Pink seems to be coming back as a guy color. The next biggest fashion trend is complete abandonment of trends. In other words, the less you seem to care about appearance (to a certain extent of course), the more desired you'll be to the opposite sex. The dirtier your hair is, the more original you'll seem. It's beginning to be all about originality at UNH. Birkenstocks, in some cases, are a must. Due to the colder climates, the closed-toe Birks are the best. Another popular trend is the classic grunge skater garb. When it comes to fashion, basically anything goes at UNH.
