Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

UNH is in the heart of New England, and that means the weather changes about every five minutes. There is absolutely no consistency in the climate here—it’s kind of like Mother Nature’s little freak experiment. UNH gets the best and the worst of every season, so bring a little bit of everything. Students normally agree that the best season is usually the fall, when the leaves turn beautiful colors and the weather is mostly stable. You can usually get away with a T-shirt and shorts just about every day of the fall. However, many beachgoers say that summer is the best season because of the close proximity of the coast. During the summer months, many UNH students take advantage of the beaches nearby because the warmer weather allows them to frequently do so.

Each winter brings different amounts of snow. On average, the campus sees a moderate one or two feet of snow, so don’t be afraid to bring your snow gear to play in. In spring, the campus is drowned in mud, but the temperatures usually allow you to break out the lighter clothes once again. Although you will need a varying degree of clothing to keep you comfortable around campus, the weather is usually right in the middle of the spectrum.

New England Weather Changes Every Hour :P

This past winter was actually pretty mild, which was surprising. Though, you should pack water proof shoes or boots anyway for the rain and snow. We do get sunny days to balance out the not-so-sunny days.

A Collective Mix of Seasons!

The weather on campus during the school year can be applied to any kind of weather fanatic! Whether someone like to ski during the winter, enjoy those rainy studying days, or lay out on the lawn during the sunny spring, there is a mix of weather throughout the year. While the snow can accumulate during the winter, the campus does a great job of clearing the side walks for students. The spring is a beautiful season for the campus with light breezes and colorful buds on the countless trees surrounding campus. The rainy days help keep students inside the library to study!

It Takes a Blizzard for a Snow Day

New England weather changes quickly, it can be a downpour in the morning, then bright and sunny in the afternoon. UNH doesn't close easily for snow days, unlike most southern state universities, which is problematic for commuters.
