Many students blame the lack of a UNCG football team as the reason for athletics not being more prevalent on campus. It's pretty true. In a country where the most important game of the year is the Super Bowl, a University that is known for its soccer team isn't really going to stand a chance in making the headlines. However, UNCG still provides a very athlete-friendly environment. Instead of putting emphasis on varsity teams, the University relies more heavily on club sports. This works out to be more beneficial for the students because it is more inclusive. Anyone with the interest and desire can join a club sport—a much more positive approach than varsity teams, which only allow those that make the cut to play.

Outside of the realm of team sports, UNCG gets high marks for providing several facilities in which students can keep themselves active. The gym is such a popular place that many machines require that students sign up for specific times to use them. In addition, the University also offers classes on tennis, dance, swimming, and even bowling. Whether you choose to go the varsity route or pick something a little more personal, UNCG has what it takes to keep you moving.
