Long Summers and Mild Winters – We tend to get hurricanes and it rains a lot, but overall it's sunny, warm and near the beach.

Great Dining Locations – There are so many places to eat in Wilmington. It is usually so hard to pick where to go because there are so many good options! Downtown Wilmington has some wonderful places, such as Frontstreet Brewery. There are also some great places on Wrightsville Beach and near Mayfaire.

Lots to Do! Wilmington is a beautiful town with lots of opportunities. The beach is about 5 miles from the campus and it is very popular with the students. Downtown Wilmington is about 10 minutes away from the campus and is located on the waterfront. There are tons of local dining locations and neat shops to explore. The nightlife downtown is also enjoyable. You will never run out of things to do in Wilmington!

Health & Safety:
Very Safe – I feel very safe on UNCW's campus. The campus is contained with mostly UNCW students and you know that most people around have something to do with the university. The UNCW police are very visible around campus and they are very friendly. There are blue-light emergency call boxes around campus that students can use if necessary.

Didn't Expect It! When I ate on campus for the first time, I was a little nervous that I would be walking into the stereotypical dining hall with gross cafeteria food. After I ate there, though, I was so pleasantly surprised! There were so many options for food and it was all good! Even vegetarian and vegan options. There are over 16 eating locations on campus, so you will really never go hungry! There are so many options and they are open convenient hours, so even if you get hungry at 10pm, you'll still be able to find something delicious to eat!

There is no need to bring a printer to school with you! I did, and barely ever used it because it never worked! There are i-Print stations in every dorm and almost every building around campus, and you get $8.00 free prints every semester, which is definitely enough to print all you will need! Also, the library and the Student Center have laptop checkout programs for free where students can checkout laptops for up to 4 hours if they don't have one with them at that time! The campus is almost 100% wireless (with the exception of a few spots that you would never need internet in anyway). UNCW is both Mac and PC friendly, so if you have a preference like I do, then it's perfect for you!

Good, Most of the Time – Parking at UNCW is usually fine. On-campus and off-campus students have to purchase parking passes, which are usually about $300, but that includes fall, spring, and summer parking, which is a pretty good deal. Students living on campus will be assigned a parking lot to park in which will be located right next to their residence hall, which is awesome for safety and convenience! Off-campus students living less than a mile away from campus are not allowed to park on campus before 4pm, but off-campus students who live more than a mile in distance away from campus are able to purchase a commuter parking pass to park on campus in the commuter lots, which are not far away from classes or anything. The only annoying thing about parking is that you cannot park anywhere else on campus before 4pm, and that gets inconvenient at times, but you learn your way around and where you can and cannot park, so its not too bad!

Fair and Just – This campus strictness is completely fair at UNCW. Just be a smart student, both academically and socially, and you will have a wonderful college experience! Don't cheat, throw parties in your dorm room, etc. and you will never have to worry about getting in trouble or ever experiencing the "campus strictness."

There is not a lot of Greek Life on campus. There are many other clubs and organizations to get involved in that you don't have to be Greek. But there is a presence on campus

On campus housing is really great. You become very close to the people that are there and who you are living with. Saying which residence hall is the best is often a biased question because each person you ask will say their own!
Love Being a Student-Athlete – Being a student-athlete at UNCW is great! A lot of support from the staff and faculty here. Easy to make friends among the different sports

Not a Lot of Experience – I did not have to work with financial aid too much during my time at UNCW. The few times that I went there was very little hassle and I got the answers to the questions that I had.

Majority of the students do follow the law and the rules of the university. Every so often students do get drinking tickets and have to report to the office of the Dean of Students. Our campus does provide resources for students to aid them with any alcohol or substance abuse issues.

Sunshine or Rain? I rate the weather an A- because sometimes it rains unexpectedly during the day, especially during hurricane season. I love the fact that majority of the school year the weather is warm and is not too cold.

Wilmington nightlife can be vary active. Several areas allow for some diversity throughout the weekend. Check out the Beach bars or Downtown for the good places.

Many to Choose from – Many places that fit your needs or price range. Great locations all around campus for a quick commute. Commuting is restricted for those that live within a mile radius of university grounds though.
College Senior 2012-06-03T22:33:08Z
Great for Residence Halls – Parking on campus overall is not bad. You can park in any white spaces anytime after 4 or on the weekends, and you get a parking spot outside of your residence hall on campus. There is plenty of parking at the library, unless it's exam week! Commuter lots seem to fill up quickly as well. However, on campus parking is reasonably priced and very convenient.

It Depends on Friends – How involved you are in the drug scene on campus really depends on if your friends are involved or not. None of mine are, so I am not involved at all. You always hear about people who are involved, but UNCW prohibits and does not condone using illegal drugs.
College Senior 2012-06-03T22:22:28Z
Lots of White Students – While the majority of students on campus are white, personally I do not think people discriminate between races or religion. This is a very culturally diverse campus, and I think the smaller number of minorities causes those groups to be closer.

Health & Safety:
Extremely Safe Campus – We have our own police department, they are not rent a cops or borrowed from the Wilmington PD. Their jurisdiction is campus and a 1 mile radius around campus. They patrol all over campus on foot, by bike and by car and they also patrol the dorms. We have 130 call boxes all over campus, which connect you directly to the police force. I have never felt uncomfortable on campus.

Variety With Some Limited Hours. There are a lot of dining locations on campus, and the meal plans are very convenient. With the different eating locations, it is very easy to find your style of food that fits your dietary needs. The only complaint I would have is that the main dining hall closes at 9 on weeknights and 8 on weekends, and the food court closes at 10. It would be nice to have something open later, especially on weekends.

Guys & Girls:
Southern Belles – Over all I would have to that UNCW has a very attractive student body. We are a very active campus so most people are in good shape. Because the weather is so nice most of the year, girls often wear dresses. With 12,000 students, interests cover the entire gambit. With so many student organizations it is very easy to meet people who are interested in the same things as you.
College Senior 2012-06-03T18:31:32Z
Awesome School – UNCW provides so much for the students beyond the classroom, but starting with academics there are over 60 majors offered at Wilmington, and the average class size is 21 students. The faculty really care about the students and are readily available outside the classroom to give help.
A lot of school only offer academic programs, which often leads to a boring social scene. But at UNCW, there are over 200 student run organizations, and involvement is very heavily stressed. There is definitely something to keep everyone occupied whether its Greek life, sports (from intramural to varsity level), or volunteer organizations.
Finally, you just can't beat UNCW's location, just a few miles from the beach! Lots of students chose to go study, relax or just have fun at Wrightsville Beach. Some even live in beach houses for the school year. Between the river front and the lively night scene in downtown Wilmington and the excitement of the ocean, Wilmington is the perfect area to go to college.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
