Atmosphere Is Great! This University has so much to do in the area! The beach is within reach and the lifestyle centers around this fact! Lots of school activities and things to do in Wilmington that you will never get bored!

The parking enforcement people are cruel and not understanding.

Needs to Be Challenged – I came to UNCW with the intention of learning, as should be expected in college. However, I found that many students were not up to par because the professors did not challenge the students.

Not a five star restraunt but with 14 meals a week no college kid should complain. The food is warm and has a pretty nice variety at the diffrent diners.

Many areas on campus are reserved by organizations and glow parties are thrown, blast from the past is acknowledged, and students who are under 21 are welcomed! If you want a big party scene, go to a house party, but remember to BYOB. UNC Wilmington has a taxi service to get the students, who drink a little too much past the legal limit, home safely :)

Military Experience – If one is serving in the military, they are not required to take PED 101, or any other PE classes.

Very Convenient – If you live on campus and have a car, your lot will be next to, or very close to your dorm or apartment. At some colleges you will have to walk a mile just to find your car. If you have a parking sticker you can park almost anywhere on campus after 4 and on the weekends. Do not park in the visitor lot/spaces, because parking will not be afraid to ticket you.

UNCW Offers Everything – At UNCW we have over 225 clubs and organizations that allow students to actively participate with students on campus and do things within the community. Becoming involved at UNCW was probably the best decision of my whole college career. Once involved you'll meet so many great people that share similar interests. All of our facilities on campus are in great condition. Our school is the perfect size in the perfect area on the coast between the beach and historic downtown Wilmington.

Health & Safety:
Very Safe Campus – At UNCW, student safety is one of the main priorities. Police officers are constantly patrolling the campus for reckless driving or suspicious behavior. I would advise locking your car doors to avoid any break-ins which rarely or ever happens. Also, in all Freshman doors you must show your ID with your dorm sticker or check in your friends/family. You are very safe here at UNCW!

Unpredictable rain sometime, but for the most part very mild. Of course, since we're near the ocean, our reputation for weather is very good! Does get extremely hot though, as well.

Great Options All Around – There's a variety of styles freshman dorms to choose from, something for everyone. And all of the options really make each freshman's experience unique and really great, depending on the style that fits the student. There are also a lot of great options for staying on campus all four years if you'd like. There's the Seahawk Crossing, Landing and Village for upperclassman that are all fairly new and amazingly convenient, spacious and desirable. On-campus housing has definitely enhanced my UNCW experience, and I can't imagine how my campus life experiences would be if I hadn't chose to live on campus my entire time here.

"UNC-White," is a little nickname the school has acquired over the years due to its lack of diversity. The school is a predominately caucasian school. There are people of different races and national origins here but they take up a small percentage of the student body. The school does make efforts to make minorities comfortable like having a Black Student Union, Hispanic Center, LGBTQIA office and holding events like Intercultural Week. Luckily, minorities are not shunned but it is still quite evident that the campus is not diverse. As a whole, people are accepting though.

Shuttles and Buses Are Great Asset – The transportation of UNCW's campus is very helpful and convenient. There are many locations where you can catch a shuttle or bus to take you wherever you need. All of the shuttles are free to students and even the wave buses are free with your school i.d. I think that's a very helpful aspect of the transportation being that most of us college students are not with a lot of money. The schedules and routes of the transportation can get a bit confusing so that would be the only downside. Overall, I'm thankful that this campus recognizes that not everyone has a car and does their best to assist those who do not.

Drinking Is More Popular – Students don't really do drugs at UNCW, but some students do smoke. More students choose to drink, but there is not heavy pressure to drink.

Guys & Girls:
Guys at UNCW – A lot of the guys are good looking at UNCW. Lots of surfers, hipsters, and religious guys from what I've noticed. However, their intentions may or may not meet yours so be careful!

One for Every Bed on Campus – Every bed on campus has a parking spot. Auxiliary Services takes ticketing very seriously but you can usually get the ticket overturned.

The weather starts to nice in March and stays nice until November. The biggest problem is that sometimes it's too nice to go to class and then you have to go to the beach.

SO Many Options – You can't turn out of the university without hitting at least 5 restaurants in the first .3 miles. Cookout is right next to campus and it's a big hit among the coeds for late night eating. There are many restaurants, you'll never run out of options, I promise!

Health & Safety:
Completely Safe – In addition to the Wilmington city police, the University has it's own police department on campus. They are not just campus safety officers, they are legitimate police. Also there are many safety police call boxes around campus. There is not a reason to feel unsafe!

It's a Beach Town! When the weather is nice (which is most of the time) it is extremely nice! But since we are right on the coast, when it rains, it rains a lot for a short amount of time and the wind is high at times. Not much to complain about though!

Simple Yet Fairly Competitive – Athletic Training is a great program at UNCW. With roughly 13 students in my class, we have all become very close, very quickly. The admissions processes to get into the program is pretty competitive. In the spring semester (typically as a freshman for traditional students) you are required to take an intro level class that opens your eyes to what it takes to be an athletic training major. This course is taught by the director of our program and you have the opportunity to complete observation hours in the on campus Athletic Training Room working closely with the D1 Athletes here are UNCW. At the end of the semester, you will begin your application process which consist of letter of recommendations, short essay describing your goals, and a professional interview. The program generally accepts anywhere from 10-15 candidates a year. My tip to applicants would be to start forming relationships with professors and advisors early so that they can write you a reference letter. Also, schedule time to sit down and talk with student already in the program and the director of the program to make sure this is what you what to do. Overall, the application process is simple, yet competitive.

As a Communication Studies major, I had to take a few pre-requisite classes and earn a B or better to continue on in the major. This department does not require an applicaiton like the Cameron School of Business where students need to take more pre-requisites and maintain good grades to be accepted. The hardest, most competitive major on campus is Nursing. If you are interested in going into the nursing program, get really good grades!

Love the Wilmington Community and Wrightsville Beach! The Wilmington community has SO much to offer. Off-campus you can find the Downtown area which is by the water and you can walk around in different litte shops and eat at some great restaurants. We have a mall that is a 5 minute drive from campus and is pretty good. The main place for students to go is Wrightsville Beach! The beach is about 7 miles away and on nice days students can ALWAYS be found hanging out there. Mayfaire is another great place to walk around for shopping, going to the movies, and eating out. The local atmosphere of Wilmington has so much to offer!

Upperclassman Housing Is Awesome – The options that freshman have are not too bad, but I suggest trying to get into the newer dorms called "Tri-House" (consisting of Cornerstone, International House, and Honors). However, the suite-styled dorms such as Graham-Hewlett are also great because you get to share a bathroom with a few people instead of having hall-styled bathrooms, AND you share a common room for more space. Galloway is known as the most social dorm because it is 6 stories and co-ed, but the rooms are small and the bathrooms are hall-styled.
Upperclassman apartments on campus are REALLY nice. They include a kitchen and living room area and you can live with 2-5 other people depending on the area. Each person gets their own larger room too! Some of the upperclassman housing areas have pools and a clubhouse. It's awesome.

New Buildings Are BEAUTIFUL – Our campus is very uniform looking when it comes to the appearance of the buildings, but inside the buildings cater to the departments that are held in them. Even the new parking deck is made with the same neo-Georgian brick look and most buildings have the pretty white colomns. The newest buildings are the best and have state-of-the-art technology, and the school is constantly making improvements on different facilities. The Student Recreation Center is currently being expanded and will be triple in size when it is completed! Students love how the school is always looking to improve the facilities.
