Since our school doesn't have a footbal team, our sports school spirit revolves mostly around the men's basketball team. Other popular sports to attend are men's soccer and baseball. Some students complain about the lack of school spirit, but those are the ones that don't actually attend the games! Club sports are a big thing to get involved in also. Intermurals are so much fun and so many students are involved in playing some kind of intermural sport with their friends. We have a huge variety of intermurals ranging from cornhole to flag football to sand volleyball. This campus is so active!

Love the Warmth! Coming from the north, weather was a huge factor to coming here. Wilmington generally has beautiful weather and is very warm. It takes a while for the weather to cool down for the winter and doesn't stay too cold for long. It barely ever snows here but can get colder for just a few months, and warms back up by March or April (sometimes even earlier)! Summers can get pretty hot and humid so prepare yourself.
One thing Wilmington is known for is the sporadic rain downpours. On days that the forcast says it will rain, be prepared with rainboots and a durable umbrella because the rain can get heavy for a little bit. However, this heavy rain doesn't last long and usually clears up in an hour or so!

Great Experience – As a transfer student, my experience has been great. In no way did I feel excluded or left out. I joined a few clubs/organizations and that has been such a great way to make friends. Also some of my teachers here have been really inspirational, if it was not for one in particular I wouldn't even have considered to double major in French and to study abroad.

Guys & Girls:
Everyone at UNCW is extremely laid back, boys and girls alike. There are a lot of long boarders and surfers but there is also a good amount of city people. There isn't a big segregation in any part of our student body. Greek life is only about 10-15% of our student body. They do amazing things for our campus but we are not a greek school.

Non Existant! I have never experienced anyone participating in drug related activities. Although this happens everywhere in the world, our UNCW police are always patrolling through the residential halls along with the RAs. It would make doing drugs practically impossible.

Process Is Easy – There are scholarships everywhere but you have to search for them. Often enough many of the professors in my department will let the students know of the specific scholarships that are offered in that department for the students. If you don't know where to start then stop by the financial aid office they are always happy to help.

Many Options – There are so many options to choose from such as chain restaurants right down to local Wilmington restaurants. There is so much variety to choose from that I think it will be hard to try everything before I graduate.

I LOVED My Major. It Was Perfect for Me! As a Communication Studies major, I learned so many transferable skills that have already proven themselves to apply to the "real world." When I look back on my classes, I can point to something that I have already used when applying to graduate school!

Bring a Car – The bus system is present but not very reliable. If you want to go off campus, you should bring a car (freshmen CAN have cars) or make good friends with someone who has one!

Applied Learning – UNCW offers many different types of applied learning opportunities. I have completed an internship, a directed independent study and many leadership positions on campus. Finding an internship was very easy and the internship director was very concerned about my wishes for learning during my internship. I actually completed it for course credit so it was an unpaid internship but I have also had several jobs on campus to make up for the lack of pay.

Guys & Girls:
Lots of People – School is after all 60% female, for guys, this is great! The beach keeps everyone here looking great and tan. The range of people go to all ends of the spectrum though, anyone would easily be able to find their group of friends and then some!

Need More of It – The Wave is the transport system around campus, however, it doesn't run 24 hours and also only has a very limited amount of stops. It is very convenient for on-campus transport and a select few other places but it is much easier to walk, bike, skate, or drive to where you need to go.

Health & Safety:
Well Lit, Tons of Call Boxes – I have never felt unsafe at UNCW! I frequently see security guards walking around the parking lots at night and they will always walk you somewhere if you need them to. I usually park right outside of my building, so the walk is not far!

UNCW is fantastic, I couldn't ask for a better school or people here. The people on campus really make your experience what it is. Joining clubs or other organizations is what really brought me to the realization that Wilmington's campus is the one for me.

Greek life here on campus is becoming more and more prominant. The campus currently is about 12% Greek and continuing to rise. Being a member of a Fraternity, I am able to see the potential for Greek life to continue to grow. Greeks are seen on campus a lot but it is very laid back in terms of being Greek or not. There is no pressure to go Greek unless it is something you're interested in.

Something for Everyone! No matter your preference in type of food or cost you can find something in Wilmington that you will LOVE. There are tons of great local spots close to the university as well as downtown and at the beach. Many places have cheap food and specials (Island's Fresh Mex Grille has dollar tacos after 5:00 every night). There are several restaurants in Wilmington that were started by UNCW alumni (try PT's Grille or the Fuzzy Peach). If you like seafood we have tons of fresh seafood restaurants and some great local pizza places. Also, if you're looking for an experience that you will only find in Wilmington, try Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn!

UNC Wilmington has consistently been named the 2nd best public school in the state as well as a nationally ranked best bang for your buck public school. The campus has wonderful faculty that allow a great environment for academics. Teachers are always available for office hours, tutoring or any other help you would ever need,

We at the Beach Baby!! Wilmington is located only five miles from Wrightsville beach. We start getting warm weather mid March and it continues to be warm until mid September. But in the fall and winter, it gets cold!!! Just because we are right at the beach doesn't mean we're always in bathing suits soaking up the sun! A part of being so close to the beach means that we get a lot of wind. While a little wind is appreciated on those hot days, its very frustrating in the cold and rain!

Have You Seen That Small White Girl? When walking around campus, its likely that a visitor will see around 60% small, Caucasian females. I am involved in the Honors Scholars College, which makes more of an attempt to include a more diverse crowd but outside of the Honors College, most of the other students seem pretty similar.

Process Not Needed – I am a student that did not require financial aid. However, I was approached with the option of receiving financial aid at the beginning of each year. This was comforting, knowing that the school wanted to help.

Variety Everywhere! Wilmington has so many great restaurants that are affordable, enjoyable, tasty and fun. There is something for everyone. From fresh seafood to hibachi by the river, everyone will be happy even if on a budget!

Strict If You're Caught – Campus police/ RA's are very on their guard, especially at night. They know the party scene and will cut some slack but crack down when they have to. Crazy parties or belligerent behavior in public is something they don't really toy around with if things get too out of control. If you're doing anything you shouldn't (drinking, etc.) just try to not make a scene or be at a place that undoubtedly is going to be busted and you should be okay. As for drinking/drugs, it really depends who you associate with, but I'd say drinking is definitely more popular.

Go Seahawks! I absolutely love UNCW. The location, the staff, the students; it's such a great school! You meet so many amazing people from all over yet most everyone still maintains that southern hospitality. Every teacher seems to really love what they're doing and tries their best to teach to the best of their abilities. Fun events are constantly happening around campus and there's lots to do in the Wilmington area (especially outdoors because the weather is so beautiful here and the beach is so close!) There may not be a football team but there is so much school spirit and pride on and off campus. Would definitely recommend this school to anyone!
