Mostly Lovely, but Beware of Afternoon Downpours! UNCW is located right on the coast, 5 minutes from the beach. Most of the time, the weather is pretty lovely (doesn't usually get below freezing). However, Wilmington is known for having freak rainstorms that will crop up between 1-3pm, especially during the warmer months. Summer is gorgeous here, but, as is typical for the South, it can get pretty warm (100 degrees) and pretty humid.
