The area of diversity is at the forefront of UNCW's improvement priorities. Yes, at the present time, diversity in terms of race is not as high as it will be in years to come. Less than 20 percent of incoming freshmen identifies themselves as a minority, but these numbers are only increasing. Increases in a variety of races, backgrounds, and ethnicities have been noticeable on UNCW's campus within the past few years, and UNCW's efforts and proactive measures to show every person from every type of background and heritage the amazing, wholesome, and inclusive community UNCW fosters will keep proving to be successful.
Students, staff, and faculty on UNCW's campus are very accepting and open, and do not discriminate. While racial diversity continues to improve, UNCW already possesses a culturally diverse campus, supporting a variety of sexual orientations and different socioeconomic backgrounds. There are so many students from around the United States, the world, from all levels of economic classes—and the list goes on. UNCW upholds an accepting and welcoming atmosphere, and a celebration of every unique individual and belief on campus remains firm in the University's list of policies and demeanor.
