UNCW is a college just like any other college in that there are going to be situations with drugs and alcohol present. However, some people think that UNCW is more of a party school because of its location near the beach, but this isn't true. There are plenty of other activities, opportunities, and involvement options for students who don't want to participate in drinking or drug activity. How involved students are with drinking or drugs is really up to them, their decisions, and their friend groups, so it's nice that there's no pressure, and there's more than one choice.

People don't look differently at students that choose not to partake. Social drinking situations are available for those who want to participate, but UNCW takes its student code of conduct seriously and makes sure its rules are enforced. If students are caught drinking underage or in possession of alcohol or any other drugs, citations or tickets are issued, and students must report to the Office of the Dean of Students. Alcohol possession is allowed if students are of age, but these individuals must label their alcohol and must not supply any for other students.
