Social Scene
UNCW is known for its very inviting, welcoming, and accepting students. Starting freshman year, everyone just wants to meet everyone, and everyone treats everyone as a friend. There's plenty of interaction between students as long as students put themselves out there. Most students are outgoing and thrive off of social interactions.
Hookups or Relationships?
There is a pretty equal balance between hookups and relationships. A lot of people may hook up at parties, at clubs downtown, or with people they meet on campus. Sometimes these hookups develop into relationships, or sometimes relationships are discovered in lesser nightlife environments, such as in the residence hall, class, or in organizations or clubs. The relationships that seem strongest start off as friendships first, then develop into something more.
Dress Code
UNCW is a very laid-back campus, with a lot of students wearing shorts, T-shirts, and flip-flops to class when it's warm. Some students continue to wear flip-flops during the winter months, too. Casual attire is custom for classes, as well as for on-campus dining and meetings. When going to parties, downtown, or to the bars, dress codes are still relatively casual, but simple dresses for girls and collared shirts for guys are acceptable. Teal is always a good thing and really shows your Seahawk spirit!
