Bike, car, wheels, foot, shuttle—a variety of transportation methods can be seen at UNCW and in the Wilmington, N.C. community. UNCW is an extremely flat, pedestrian-friendly campus, so having a bike proves to be a quick and efficient way of getting to class, nearby locations close to campus, and even to the beach (though that won't be quite as quick, but is still possible). A lot of Seahawk students also use longboards and skateboards. Sometimes you may even observe the unique choice of a tandem bicycle, roller skates, scooters, or motorized skateboards. Of course, walking is also a popular mode of transportation around campus.
Freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus, but it's not necessary to have one. A lot of students don't bring their cars to UNCW until they obtain an off-campus job or internship and actually need a car. The Seahawk Shuttle runs on a fixed schedule around campus, and is a great option, especially if it's raining. Wave transit shuttles also run around Wilmington, and are also a viable option for students in nearby off-campus apartments. Shuttles are free with student ID! There is a park and ride system in place for those who live farther off campus. Schedules for the shuttles are all listed online.
