Overall, a Good Experience to Have! The UNC-Chapel Hill campus is essentially split into three zones: north, middle and south. I've had the opportunity to live on both middle and south and have had wonderful experiences with both. The dorms on north campus are obviously closer to campus and often times of better quality. Most of them are hall-style (versus suite) and are often occupied by second-years and upperclassmen. I personally lived in Carmichael Residence Hall my first year (mid-campus) and had an overall good experience. The dorm was located directly between south and north campus so I had great access to everything; however, as a first-year, it wasn't a great environment for making friends. The dorms on south campus (Hinton James, Craige, Ehringhaus, etc.) are typically where many first-years are placed and they host more vibrant social scenes. Although they are not known for being the nicest on campus, many underclassmen do not regret living there because of the many friends they take with them when they leave. Also located on south are Ram Village and Odum Village-- on-campus apartments. I currently live in Ram Village and couldn't be happier. It's far from the academic buildings, but many of the buses stop right outside my door. My current apartment has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a community kitchen and living room. It's been great to have my own room while still remaining in the midst of the UNC experience.

Vibrant Town/Campus Atmosphere – Although Chapel Hill isn't a large town, it is (for the most part) teeming with opportunities for students to enjoy the campus as well as the surrounding area. Our main drag, Franklin Street, hosts a number of restaurants, bars and small locally-owned shops--there is more or less, something for everyone. About 15 minutes down the road and into Durham is Southpoint Mall, a huge and wonderful shopping center! Neighboring Carrboro is known for it's art and culture scene, and many students participate in activities happening in and around there. Intramurals are a common pastime at UNC-Chapel Hill and there are many sports to choose from, whether it be for casual recreation or on a club team. As far as viewing sports goes, we have an amazing athletic program! The school spirit is infectious on campus and in Chapel Hill! Chapel Hill is a wonderful place to be during the school year!

We get it all. 60-80 is a typical weak. On the average, the weather is great.

Ready to Change the World! The academics at Chapel Hill are great! I am studying social sciences and there is an incredible Anthropology program here. All my professors have been good, sometimes any lecture can be a bit of a drag, though. But,for the most part, I learn about really interesting topics and open my mind to things I've never even thought about before!

Franklin Street – Franklin has the typical college fair in local establishments and popular chains, while offering fine dining in a historic town. We have it covered from The Yogurt Pump to Weathervane and Crook's Corner.

They've Got What You Need – This is the first public university in the country. Some buildings are 200 years old, some facilities are new. All the athletic facilities are now top notch and the professional schools as well.

Not Too Bad – Parties can get pretty crazy, but you are pretty safe going to frats and don't have to worry too much about cops there - they aren't allowed to go inside and don't do too much. But running around Franklin Street drunk can definitely get you a ticket, so just be smart.

Franklin Street – Good variety and mixture of prices - mostly on Franklin street. I especially love the Mediterranean Deli on Franklin. There are all types of places to go and whatever you are in the mood for - Franklin street has it!

Always Something to Do. I usually have no problem finding something to do on the weekends and am tempted frequently on weekdays as well. Greek life is very big and there are usually a number of frats throwing parties on weekends, though they are sometimes somewhat exclusive, so know someone or bring lots of ladies. Intramural sports teams, or clubs also throw parties at houses that are a little less intense and exclusive. There are a number of clubs that allow patrons under 21, and there are plenty of bars for those of age. There are also events and concerts somewhat frequently in the area.

Basketball is HUGE every year and is really fun to support such a well-known team. We have a great soccer program, winning Nationals this year, but it's still not as big as basketball. Football is not a big nor is our team as high in ranking as our basketball team, but it's free to see games and it is also a fun thing to take part in. There is a lot of infectious school spirit. There are also a lot of intramural teams for a lot of different sports well-known, and obscure. There are plenty of well-managed fields, facilities, and support for athletes on campus.

On campus housing is more expensive by the month, but if you do decide to live off campus there are cheaper apartments and rooms in houses you will pay less per month but you will probably be paying for 12 months instead of 9 (you can always sublet though or stay and work or take summer classes). On campus housing is generally closer if you are on mid- or north campus, but south campus is just as far as a lot of very reason off campus places. Parking on campus is impossible.

Chapel Hill is incredibly diverse, you can find people of all persuasions, orientations, races and backgrounds. Whatever your interests are, you can find a group that's involved with it.

Franklin St – Franklin Street has the majority of restaurants that people go to. There's plenty of options, and there's always something open.

Guys & Girls:
Guys Are Hot – There's a large amount of women at Chapel Hill, but that doesn't mean that there are more attractive women. The men are the hot commodity on campus, especially the gay ones.

Good Overall – I like that there are CCI printers in a whole bunch of locations, not just the main libraries. I never have a problem finding a computer to use when I go to the library (especially Davis).

Health & Safety:
Pretty Safe – I feel safe on campus, though it's always smart to keep doors locked and such. The campus alert system sends out notifications about crimes and assaults, so I feel fairly informed about when campus safety has been compromised.

The weather is usually great! When it's sunny the campus is beautiful and happy. People play instruments, lie in the lawn etc.

It's pretty good. Franklin street is great, but if you want to eat there everyday you will see that you run out of options quickly
College Senior 2012-04-17T17:59:42Z
Lack of parking, permits are expensive and not always convenient, not really necessary to have a car on campus.

Carolina puts a lot of emphasis on sports because they are not only tons of fun but a great way to build the Tar Heel community.

Greek Life Is Fun – I really enjoy Greek life here. It's not too big and it provides a niche for you immediately when you get here.

UNC is super duper awesome. I gave it a B+ because it's kind of hard being an out-of-state student and making new friends because a lot of people came here with all of their high school friends and aren't interested in making new ones. The schoolwork is impossible, but you get over it. But as a whole, this school is amazing.
College Senior 2012-04-17T17:48:23Z
Sports are huge here. Basketball and football bring a lot of school spirit, as well as other sports.
College Senior 2012-04-17T17:45:30Z
Lots of Tickets – Theres no clear parking rules and there is a limited availability.
College Senior 2012-04-17T17:43:40Z
Visible on the weekends and on LDOC. But if you don't want to be a part of it you don't see it.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
