Depends what you can afford and what youre used to using. I got the grant which is for the cheapest lenovo (even though the computer itself hasnt even come out yet) because i am used to windows and don't wanna teach myself the mac user interface, even though i couldve paid 300 dollars more for one. You can see if you got a grant under connect carolina < to do list < general items

So the grant is only good for the cheapest computer they have, correct?

Yes, i believe so

Yes but you can add money to buy a nicer one

Thanks everyone!

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Carolina introduced a new initiative in 2001 called Carolina Computing Initiative (CCI). As per this computing initiative, students are required to bring a laptop set up as required by CCI or buy a laptop from the school. Students are all shown how to configure their laptops and make onyens (a glorified username that serves all of the school's servers) for future use. For students having issues with their computing devices, ITS (Information Technology Services) is available free of charge. If a student is having technical issues, all he needs to do is send an email to ITS, and a response will be sent within the hour. If a student's laptop is a CCI laptop, a loaner will be provided while repairs are made. Otherwise, students can make use of the abundant computer labs while their laptops are being serviced.

Students are able to work in dorms, libraries, classrooms, and around campus through free wireless Internet. Furthermore, UNC has alotted $40 of each student's tuition as printing money. This allows a semester's worth of printing without the inconvenience of owning a printer. Additional money for printing can also be added on a student's access card if necessary.
