I would deffinlty find that UNC is that type of school. I am not afraid to leave my dorm room door open for example while I walk around the hall or to other parts of the building.

UNC officials and Chapel Hill police have done a great job making sure that the student body feels safe on campus. They offer many services, such as Safe Walk and the P2P to make sure students get home safely from the library or from a late night on Franklin Street. The Department of Public Safety heads a first-rate division of police, security, and emergency services that ensures that students live in a safe and secure environment. Public Safety and Community Oriented Policing (COP) keep Chapel Hill safe under a warm and cozy protective blanket. Security guards and campus police patrol the campus and streets 24 hours a day. Medical emergencies are typically tended to by UNC hospitals, which are located on campus and easy to access.

Students are also protected by rules and regulations that the University has put forth. A student may face immediate expulsion if caught with a firearm or weapon. Furthermore, dorms also have security features, such as the use of a Flex Pass and a room key to enter. Students are advised to lock their rooms to protect themselves against both theft and other crimes. The campus also alerts students when there has been a crime or campus safety has been compromised. The biggest crime on campus is theft—primarily bikes and laptops—so students are advised to not leave their belongings unattended and to invest in good locks.
