Advice on Financial Aid
Financial aid is one of the poorer aspects of UNC. There seems to be no cohesive system, and it is very difficult to get a hold of someone who will be able to answer all of your questions. The biggest piece of advice in this situation is to not get frustrated, come prepared, and don't leave things to the last minute because they will often take a while to get sorted out.
Special Financial Aid Programs
The Carolina Covenant program is a no-loan program for qualifying low-income students. To qualify, a student's family's adjusted gross income may not exceed 200 percent of the federal poverty level depending on family size. In 2004, the first year of the program, UNC enrolled 224 Covenant Scholars. In fall 2011, UNC enrolled 579 Covenant Scholars, representing 12 percent of the entering freshman class.
