Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Carolina weather is usually mild in the winter and extremely hot and muggy in the summer. There’s usually a very short spring ending in March, and a very long summer ending in late August. The winters are typically mild, but in case of a particularly harsh winter, you might want to bring a couple of sweaters to be prepared. However, it’s likely you’ll never wear them—North Carolina rarely experiences ice or snowstorms. More than likely, you’ll need shorts, short-sleeve shirts, and tank-tops in the spring and summer. In the fall and winter, you’ll need jeans, long-sleeve shirts, and a light jacket.

North Carolina’s varied weather makes a variety of activities possible throughout the year. Summers are perfect for taking a weekend trip to the beach. In the winter, students can head to Virginia to ski or snowboard. Spring and fall are by far the most beautiful seasons in North Carolina and the foliage is breathtaking. Blue Heaven wouldn’t be the same without its heavenly climate.

It Can Get Hot

Typical for the south, it is hot and muggy from June to September. The winter's aren't too cold, but there is the occasional snow fall. Spring is gorgeous, just beautiful, Carolina blue skies.

Usually Pretty Nice

It gets pretty hot in August and it can get cold in the winter, but overall the weather is pretty moderate. There are definitely seasons, so it can get up to 100 F and it does snow occasionally, but overall not so bad. The campus is kind of spread out though and it's a large campus, so you do walk outside a lot. As long as you prepare for the weather, it's usually not that big of a deal.

Lovely and Pleasant

The fall and spring mark the beginning and ending of the school year. They also happen to be the most beautiful times on UNC's scenic campus. My friends and I have argued what campus is the most aesthetically pleasing, and biases aside, UNC has to be considered as a candidate, and the weather plays a large part in it. UNC's location in the southeast offers mild winters, and the falls and springs are utterly perfect, to the extent that it compels you to be outside.
