For studying music, I can't imagine a place I would be receiving a better education. The professor are an eclectic mix of traditionalist and progressive minds, and classes are both challenging and encouraging. The professors are always willing to spend extra time with a student to help them improve, as well.

The parking is relatively far away from the rest of campus. However, campus is fairly small, so that doesn't mean too much. It's still quite the hike The temperatures also always seem far more extreme in the parking lot, and finding a spot can be incredibly frustrating.

There are plenty of nearby places, with a wide variety of food. The cost can sometimes get a little out of hand, but for the most part it's worth the taste.

There are so many places to eat around campus. There's a huge variety of restaurants to eat at. They are for the most part very affordable and not far from campus. I've been to the majority of cute little restaurants and cafe's, and let me say that they are delicious. As far as student discounts there aren't many restaurants that have it, but there is definitely a few. If there isn't a discount though it's still cheap. The variety of restaurants range from Mediterranean, Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Greek, Thai, and etc. Speaking from personal experience if you're getting tired of the on campus dining hall i'd definitely say take a ride off campus and grab a bite at one of these restaurants and you wouldn't regret it.

A portion of the school is under construction and that portion used to be a parking lot that is now blocked off. So that gives most students with a car a limited place to park. The only place to park is a parking lot south of campus that can be a very far walk from dorms, classes, and academic buildings. If you're an RA you can park behind the dorm. But if you park illegally the campus police do give tickets and if you avoid the warnings your can get towed. So really you just have to follow the rules as far as parking goes, until construction is over, and there is more places to park.

The drug scene at University of North Carolina school of the Arts is not bad at all. Like most colleges though i'm sure many drugs are available. The most people do at the school is smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol. But besides that it really does depend on who you hang out with and even then it's not that big of a deal, because people rarely do it. Since this is an arts school we spend our whole day on our craft ranging from 9 AM to 12 AM for some people. No one has time to be doing crazy antics/drugs. The campus police are also very strict so if they catch you on something, you shouldn't be on, they'll deal with it accordingly. As far as peer pressure, no one, at least that i know of is judged if they don't want to do something. The school is a very loving and accepting community and anyone can do whatever they want without the feeling of being forced to do or not to do something.

The food choices on campus compared to off campus differ tremendously. Like most dining halls at other schools, the variety of food served at the stations stay relatively the same. So if you're not having pizza, you're having hamburgers, or mozzarella sticks. There's isn't much variety as far as the weekly menus go. You start to understand and know what's going to be served on what day after a while. Also the dining hall, isn't all that healthy, it isn't the place a vegetarian or vegan would want to spend their time. Unfortunately, there isn't that many options besides a salad bar and a fruit section for people who want to eat healthy. Now another mini cafe we have is a place called the pickle jar. They have a little more variety as far as healthy food is concerned. But they also have a lot of fast food, and there menus stay the same for the year. But if you want to eat off campus there are tons of cute and affordable restaurants to dine in. WInston-Salem has a wide range of restaurant choices depending on what your in the mood for. I suggest you keep your own mini fridge and microwave in your dorm if possible, so you can store and make your own food sometimes.

I haven't personally had much experience with the use of school provided computers at UNCSA, but I have had plenty of experience with the wireless network available to the students. On only one occasion did I have any trouble with the internet service, and that was when the internet went down for a short period of time campus wide.

much of the socializing is revolved around fine arts appreciation , thus they are enjoyable yet clean of poor partying practices.

the programs here are very demanding and do not promote a lot of free time for this sort of recreation.

printing is easily accessable. There are on site expansions being developed for the library that will likely better resources for academic needs.

Campus activities, while on a small scale mostly, are fun and highly enjoyable. The gym is excellent, with a wide variety of equipment. The library is also expansive, and there are several cool places on campus to sit with friends.

Overall, I suppose the nightlife is okay. There are parties every night if you wish to go to them, but for those of us who don't, you can't avoid them. They're loud, often at the worst times, and continuous.

Health & Safety:
Although campus security is very helpful (For the most part) and prompt to respond, the health department needs some serious work. I don't know a single student who trusts the school doctor and her assistants, and they wrote off my RA as having a "stomach bug" when she was suffering from a much more serious organ problem.

They still run Windows XP. Although available at all times (Which is a plus), bringing your own laptop is a must if you actually want to get work done.

The teachers are very knowledgeable, and the topics are interesting for the most part, but it's easy to feel as if these classes are not relevant to my major.

You can't go 10 minutes without seeing a campus police officer or vehicle on campus. I've never felt unsafe on campus. If there is any threat whatsoever campus police sends an email out of the situation telling you what they are doing and what you should do.

The classes can be really creative but better format is needed. The academic classes need structure.

Guys & Girls:
You'll find many characters at School of the Arts. There's 5 programs - Music, Dance, Film, Drama, and Design& Production. A certain level of artistic sophistication is located in every department, but each has it's unique set of stereotypical qualities. Drama tends to be the most stuck-up. They dress up in all black ninja-like outfits everyday. Also they typically display fake personalities, as they are always acting. I have found several to be talking in a strange irish accent for a week at a time. They use life as a stage, and are constantly playing pretend with themselves. Music kids are the hermits. It's hard to describe them because they are too busy hiding indoors. Ironically, they are never seen nor heard. Film kids are the quirky, hipster kids. Pretentiousness is not hard to find. They spend most time disagreeing about the quality of movies and participating in strange activities. I have found a group of film kids dressing up as pirates for no reason. If you like mainstream Hollywood cinema, then keep your mouth shut around them. Dancers have a New-York esque flair to them, and if they are male they are most likely flamboyant and homosexual. Not afraid to express themselves in any way. The most attractive women are found in dance, but their intelligence lacks. A lot. Design and Production students are like hardworking ants. Underground, straightforward, and sketchy. They work hard. They are technical geeks. They could build you a stage in a week. And they will not hesitate to tell you how busy they are. That's Uncsa students in a nutshell.

Really pretty for the most part! You experience each season. Winter can be pretty wet and cold but not too much snow.

Off campus housing can be very cheap! If you want to rent a house in winston salem with several other people you could be paying much less than the cost of housing on campus. Also there are several nice apartment complexes near school that are reasonably priced and safe for college students to live in.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
